Free Country is a leader in innovative and stylish outdoor apparel, dedicated to blending performance, style, and sustainability. We are looking for a ladies Outerwear Designer to help us push the boundaries of functional outerwear and take our collections to the next level.

Position Summary We are seeking a creative and technically proficient Outerwear Designer with experience in outdoor categories like softshell, fleece, rain, and snow. You will be responsible for creating trend-right outerwear that fit our brand's aesthetic, quality, and functional requirements. This role requires a strong understanding of materials, garment construction, and a passion for crafting innovative products.

Key Responsibilities

Concept & Design:

Perform market analysis in trend forecasting keeping ahead of industry developments, incorporating relevant trends and design inspirations.

Sketching & Tech Packs:

Create original sketches, detailed technical drawings (flats in Adobe Illustrator), and comprehensive tech packs with detailed specifications for production. Create cads for sales.

Material Selection:

select and source new fabrics and trims, ensuring materials meet technical specifications, performance needs, and budget requirements.

Fittings & Prototyping:

Oversee the prototype sampling process, attend fit sessions, and collaborate with technical design teams and manufacturers to ensure proper fit, construction, and quality.

Collaboration:

Partner closely with merchandising, production, sourcing, and tech teams to ensure cohesive collection development and timely delivery of high-quality products.

Production:

approve qualities and colors on fabrics and trims and attend fittings

Qualifications & Skills

Bachelor's degree in Fashion Design or a related field.

5 + years of proven experience as active/outdoor outerwear designer, with a strong portfolio showcasing design skills and creativity.

Strong understanding of outerwear construction including fits, fills, seam finishes, quilting methods, and functional features in fabric and garment.

Expert in design software, including Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop.

PLM experience a plus

Excellent sketching and illustration abilities.

Ability to work in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment and manage multiple projects simultaneously.

Must be a team player with a collaborative mind set.

Strong communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively communicate with overseas vendors and cross functional teams

Strong eye for color

Salary Range: $90,000 - $100,000
