Impact The Senior Technical Editor will play a critical role in ensuring the clarity, quality, and accuracy of communications and documentation supporting nuclear material accounting software and operations. This position contributes directly to maintaining the secure and effective operation of U.S. nuclear facilities by supporting the Department of Energy/National Nuclear Security Administration (DOE/NNSA) mission.
Responsibilities and Duties
Write, edit, and manage technical publications for SRS and DOE/NNSA activities.
Lead cross‑functional publishing teams, ensuring high‑quality deliverables meet strict deadlines.
Develop, communicate, and document functional requirements for nuclear material accounting software.
Serve as a subject matter expert on LANMAS software and its implementation at DOE/NNSA sites.
Support acceptance testing and user support functions.
Provide helpdesk support and training materials for LANMAS users.
Consult with internal and external stakeholders to ensure effective documentation and software support strategies.
Conduct travel (up to one week per month) to SRS or other DOE sites for badging, collaboration, and support.
Market and promote editorial services, develop schedules, and match customer needs with resources.
Minimum Qualifications
Experience with:
Nuclear Material Control and Accountability at DOE/NNSA sites
LANMAS software
Writing and editing complex technical materials
Demonstrated ability to interpret and communicate technical information effectively.
Understanding of publication processes, templates, and layout/design tools.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Ability to work independently and meet critical deadlines.
Must be able to obtain and maintain a DOE “Q” security clearance.
Desired Skills
Previous DOE “Q” or “L” clearance within the last two years.
Experience in requirements development for technical or software documentation.
Familiarity with classified material handling and document control processes.
Ability to lead remote collaboration and training sessions.
Experience providing helpdesk or technical user support.
Education and Experience Requirements
BS/BA in Technical Communications, English, Business, or related field with 5–7 years relevant experience OR
AS degree with 8–10 years relevant experience OR
10+ years directly related experience
Education and/or experience in a technical or scientific field is desirable.
