Managing Director, The Drag Audio Production House
The Drag is the professionally‑led, student‑powered audio production house of Texas Student Media (TSM) at the University of Texas at Austin. The managing director will be responsible for spearheading the short and long‑term strategic direction of The Drag, directing its marketing, fundraising and revenue generation, audio content strategy, event planning, client partnerships and student supervision. The role also includes an advisory support role for 91.7 KVRX radio, TSM’s FCC‑licensed, student‑run radio station.
Responsibilities
Manage day‑to‑day operations, working with student staff and the executive producer to approve new audio projects, own all client relationships and ensure operations run smoothly.
Provide creative input and advisory support for existing podcasts, guide formation of new podcasts and collaborate with student groups on journalistic reporting, editing, producing and sound design.
Direct fundraising and revenue strategy, sell and manage podcast advertising, secure new donors and run fundraising campaigns, and create event strategies that serve as fundraising opportunities.
Oversee marketing efforts for The Drag and its podcasts, partnering with the student marketing team on PR campaigns, social media, website content, newsletters and outreach channels.
Build partnerships with news organizations, podcasters and like‑minded entities.
Support the TSM Broadcast Advisor and KVRX students as required with technical support, production assistance, meeting oversight and other assignments.
Required Qualifications Bachelor’s degree and a minimum of three years of experience in audio production. Proven track record managing content teams in a journalistic setting, with expertise in marketing (especially social media) and fundraising/revenue generation. Demonstrated ability to teach practical journalistic skills to others and a passion for podcasting with a well‑defined understanding of the industry.
Preferred Qualifications Advanced degree in Communications or a related field and a minimum of five years of experience in media. Experience with contracts, creative project bidding, budget management, and proficiency in audio editing and production. Proven background working with college students of diverse educational backgrounds.
