Job Description
The Technical Writer is responsible for writing instruction manuals, guides and other kinds of supporting documentation for data center operations. The Technical Writer is responsible for authoring and illustrating well‑written content which presents applications in a clear and concise manner as easy‑to‑use. When preparing documentation and standardizing content, the Technical Writer will collaborate with management and support personnel.
Learn complex concepts and communicate the information in a way that is engaging and understood by the target audience
Collaborate and consult with team members to develop and execute content
Proficient with all required Mission Critical Operation’s standards, policies, and processes
Develop a deep understanding of internal and external users and their learning needs
Understanding of proper day‑to‑day operations and how systems act interdependently, and proficient in client processes, local site/campus procedures, and critical equipment operation/failure mitigation steps
Create end user documentation such as SOPs, training manuals and how‑to guides for the non‑technical user
Make manuals, guides, procedures, and other supporting documentation easy‑to‑use by presenting them in a clear and concise manner
Act as an editor to prepare review, revise, and maintain technical documents ensuring consistency in documentation
Assist with the development of Data Center standards and policies when necessary
Gather and analyze technical and product information from various sources to document new or changing functionality
Maintain a library of application documentation, cataloging it for internal and/or external use
Prepare and author various internal communication efforts as requested
Complete other such duties assigned by T5FM management
Qualifications Education And Experience
High school degree, required
Prior military or technical school training, preferred
1‑3+ years’ experience in Mission Critical Environments, preferred
Electrical or mechanical licensure, preferred
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, And Competencies
Strong verbal and written communication skills required for working effectively with CFM, team members, vendors and customers on daily data center management
Good written technical proficiency to support the creation and revision of process documentation (MOPs, SOPs, and EOPs)
Able to read and understand electrical and mechanical manuals, drawings, and sketches
Strong experience owning an end‑to‑end documentation creation process
Experience creating infographics to communicate workflow processes and abstract topics clearly
Excellent attention to detail and the ability to prioritize and work in a fast‑paced, changing environment
Background knowledge of technical platforms and languages
Excellent writing and proofreading skills
Embraces a team‑based mentality by building positive morale and team spirit, supporting teammates’ efforts to succeed, and recognizing teammates’ accomplishments
Has a “can‑do” customer service attitude who is conscientious and takes personal pride in their work
Has high degree of attention to detail and completes tasks on time
Able to follow instructions, respond to management direction, and volunteer readily when asked
Able to handle changing needs and priorities accurately and professionally
Physical Requirements
Ability to stand, walk, sit, climb, and balance
Ability to stoop, kneel, crouch and crawl using both arms and legs
Ability to reach, grasp, push, pull, handle, feel, and type with both hands and arms
Ability to smell, talk and hear
Ability to see at close and distance ranges and the ability to see and correctly distinguish color
Ability to lift equipment in small spaces without mechanical assistance, weighing up to 100 pounds
Ability to work inside and outside
