The purpose of the position is to perform a wide variety of tasks involved in the development of cartographic products including but not limited to field data collection, compilation, editing, and map production (web or digital); Global Positioning System (GPS); and Geographic Information System (GIS) technical support functions. Visits field sites to gather information, utilizing accepted field mapping techniques which may include GPS, total stations, tape and compass, alidade and plane table or any combination thereof. Independently inputs both routine and complex spatial and non-spatial digital data to draft format, field compilation, CAD or GIS. Plots data to meet user's requirements for various types of displays. Operates, updates, and maintains CAD/GIS software, hardware, and associated peripheral devices. Yosemite National Park, California, known worldwide for its spectacular natural beauty, is the backdrop for this position. The park covers 1,182 square miles of varied wilderness ecosystems, from river valleys to alpine meadows to lofty 13,000 foot high peaks. The park is open year-round with the majority of activities occurring during the busy season March through October.
