Job Summary The Designer I is responsible for supporting the introduction of new products and technology to the market, as well as maintaining current product design documentation. The position designs components and subsystems and collaborates with engineers to create models, drawings, sub-assemblies and specifications to support assigned design work. The Designer I participates in product definition from scope of work to detailed specification, in DFMEA activities, performs analysis, tolerance stacks, basic stress and strain as well as fit and form checks of components to ensure proper function and appropriate definition is provided.
The Designer I reports to an Engineering Supervisor and/or Engineering Manager and requires close supervision.
Basic Qualifications
Associate's Degree in Design or equivalent work experience
1 year of AutoCAD system use
Preferred Qualifications
1 year of experience in product design for engine/motor driven machinery, equipment, or powered tools
1 year of experience in 3D solid modeling and 2D drafting tools, ideally in CREO and/or SolidWorks
Basic knowledge of material specs and use including design considerations with a variety of materials (e.g. Sheet metal, plastics, castings)
Basic understanding of drafting standards as well as GD&T aligned to ASME Y14.5 concepts and application.
Basic understanding of tolerance stack, stress, strain and form, fit, and function understanding with extensive application capabilities.
Basic understanding of manufacturing processes including complex parts and assembly as well as manufacturability considerations

Ability to work independently and as part of a team, take an ownership approach for assigned area of responsibility;
Ability to prioritize and stay organized in a changing environment;

Essential Duties And Responsibilities
Prepare and maintain detailed design drawings, schematics, specifications, kits, BOMs and/or instructions for field kits using Computer Aided Design (CAD) software.
Work closely with design originators (e.g., engineers, designers) to resolve design details or discrepancies, or to prepare drawings of basic designs of parts of assemblies, which require precision using CAD (Computer Aided Drafting) or CAE (Computer Aided Engineering) equipment.
Identify solutions and opportunities. Create, modify and control detailed but fairly routine documentation (models and drawings) from engineers' and senior staff's sketches, plans, written and verbal instructions.
Apply drafting standards and procedures consistently.
