Overview
Maintenance and Operator Instructor/Technical Writer-EN at CAE. Plans, creates, and reviews technical publications for flight simulators. Writing duties require extensive knowledge of electronics and techniques to address technical and training aspects of the position.
Responsibilities
Conduct structured classroom instruction and simulator on-the-job training (OJT) for all aspects of operation and maintenance of the simulator and its associated equipment.
Evaluate and document student performance.
Serve as a Technical Advisor for solving broad technical problems. Schedule all training activities. Answer complex technical questions escalated from team members/customers. Maintain good customer relations.
Utilize all available documentation (commercial manuals and engineering drawings) in training for simulator maintainers.
Teach students to troubleshoot, repair, replace, tune and align simulator systems using diagnostics available.
Develop training materials and courseware; implement improvements to ensure maintenance staff meet contractual maintenance levels.
Generally work in an unsupervised environment; follow contract, standards, directives, policies, and delivered maintenance documentation.
Provide technical input to technical writers and other subject matter experts (SMEs).
Interface with subcontractors to arrange maintenance training on equipment provided, ensuring all simulator subsystems are included in the instruction.
Qualifications And Education
Associate degree or equivalent.
Minimum of 8 years’ experience with full-flight simulators, preferably in operation and maintenance.
Thorough understanding of simulator maintenance requirements; ability to read drawings, schematics, plans, and specifications.
Experience developing maintenance-related documents using in-house and/or vendor-provided documentation.
Excellent communications skills (oral and written), including dynamic presentation skills.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite; strong work ethic and self-motivation.
Strong interpersonal skills.
Willingness to travel worldwide 30-40% of the time.
Flexible hours and overtime as needed.
Preferred Skills
Experience developing and/or conducting simulator maintenance training.
Prior experience with DoD contractors is preferred.
Security Responsibilities Must comply with all company security and data protection policies and procedures. Responsible for proper marking and handling of all information and materials. Shall not divulge information to individuals without a need-to-know. Shall not divulge information outside the company without management approval. All government and proprietary information will be accessed and stored electronically on company-provided resources.
Incumbent must be eligible for DoD Personal Security Clearance.
Work Environment
Work is performed in an environment where irritants such as noise, temperature and lighting variations may exist.
Must be able to tolerate simulator motion, vibrations and varying acoustical environments.
Physical Demands
Ability to fit into confined spaces.
Ability to operate a personal computer, conduct video conferences, hold live meetings, and use training aids or simulator maintenance equipment.
Ability to lift over 40 pounds when required to perform maintenance-related training exercises.
