Operator, Police Telecommunications Position for Houston Community College (HCC) Police Dispatch Center. Primary communications contact for campus community and field officers. Responsible for evaluating and disseminating security information, maintaining reports, operating multi‑modal emergency notification system, and coordinating with other agencies during emergencies. Requires 24/7 coverage including weekends, evenings, nights, holidays, extended hours and on‑call status.

Essential Functions

Serve as primary contact for HCC community needing Police/Security assistance via radio, telephone, e‑mail, and electronic record systems.

Serve as primary contact via the police radio network for field officers during routine and emergency situations.

Coordinate with other agencies for emergency response to campus facilities, 24/7.

Receive, evaluate, and dispatch appropriate police/security assistance on calls from the campus community.

Maintain system‑wide capability for coordination of notifications in emergencies.

Receive and disseminate information from Tx Law Enforcement Telecommunications System, NCIC, TCIC, local databases.

Maintain accurate, up‑to‑date Police and Security report files; handle sensitive confidential info.

Maintain computerized duty record reflecting officer and duty location assignment.

Operate mass notification system to relay emergency information to students and staff.

Record calls and generate reports in dispatch record management system.

Operate time‑accounting equipment for payroll records.

Issue case numbers, run license plate checks, and handle record checks.

Qualifications Perform other duties, tasks and assignments as required.

High School Diploma or GED required.

No experience required; police communications experience preferred.

Licensing & Certification

Valid Texas Driver License with good driving record.

Valid TLETS, NLETS, TCIC/NCIC certification required. Non‑certified applicants must complete training within 12 months of employment.

Working Conditions General office setting. Requires ability to walk, stand, sit, use hands, reach, and talk or hear. Must have close and distance vision. Use of personal computing equipment, telephone, multi‑functioning printer, photocopier, file cabinets, and calculator. Manual dexterity to lift up to 25 pounds, reach, bend, use 2‑step stool while lifting boxes. May be required to work after hours, weekends, holidays. Ability to travel to meetings or events.

Security Sensitive This job class may contain security‑sensitive positions subject to Texas Education Code 51.215.

Background Requirements Applicant must pass a complete criminal history and background check and have no convictions for any felony offense. No convictions for offenses above Class B misdemeanor in the last 10 years. No probability of future conviction for a disqualifying offense. Must pass detailed work history and criminal background investigation to meet Texas DPS and TCOLE qualifications.
