The Telecommunication Operator earns a competitive salary of

$22.92 to $23.39 per hour

based on qualifications. The city pays all premiums for dental, long‑term disability protection, and life insurance, plus the majority portion of the medical premium for employees and their dependents. A Day in the Life of the Telecommunications Operator In this position, you will receive calls for service from citizens regarding police emergencies, fire, EMS, and other City services. Additionally, you will be responsible for monitoring radio channels, answering incoming calls to 911, and dispatching communications to the appropriate units.

Hours 12‑hour shifts – must be available to work any shift required. Shifts are 6:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m., including weekends and holidays.

Essential Functions

Manage all radio traffic on multiple channels; dispatch calls; give in‑progress updates for emergencies; check status of wanted people, stolen articles, and vehicles; enter and manage computer‑free motorcycle units.

Answer in‑progress emergency 911 calls by managing irrational or hysterical callers while extracting safety and suspect information; make critical decisions for time‑sensitive situations; prioritize answering above all other operations.

Takes non‑emergency calls including giving information about warrants and vehicles; answers questions about the city and law enforcement; acts as a hub for communications and routing calls for all police specialties and City operations.

Enter and manage all TCIC/NCIC records including criminal warrants, stolen vehicles, stolen articles, and stolen license plates; verify hits from outside agencies for all these records.

Manage and disseminate constant flow of official police teletype communications that include area‑wide safety alerts, attempts to locate or apprehend, sending warrant holds, or other official means of communication between police agencies.

Act as a liaison and coordinate with other agencies about jurisdiction, meet locations for prisoner transports or pick‑ups, paging SWAT; handle all police callouts and various City call outs such as animal control and traffic lights.

Additional Duties

Verify and manage municipal and criminal warrants with outside agencies including constantly updating the warrant status, verifying location of prisoners, sending holds, and sending releases.

Validate all TCIC/NCIC records in a monthly check of all updated information for each individual TCIC/NCIC record entered.

Operate multiple programs and utilize all public and City resources to research information such as current addresses and phone numbers.

Perform related work as assigned.

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements

High School graduation or GED equivalent.

One‑year telecommunications or closely related experience.

Special Certifications and Licenses

CPR Certification

Notary Certification

Basic Telecommunications Operator Certification (required within one year of hire)

Intermediate Telecommunications Operator Certification preferred
