The Museum of Fine Arts, Houston, seeks a dynamic storyteller who can reach audiences through words, images, and videos on a variety of platforms. The right person, reporting to the Head of Marketing and Sales, will help shape campaigns and brand messaging by creating content around exhibitions, events, and behind‑the‑scenes efforts. This position will be part of an “always‑on” marketing team that is collaborative, inventive, and detail‑oriented.
Working in the rich environment of the MFAH means constantly being involved in a Museum that does not sleep. In order to capture content, some weekend and evening work will be part of the position. The person who accepts this position will need to be flexible on many levels.
Responsibilities Video Production
Works with Head of Marketing and Sales to create a budget and schedule for video production each fiscal year
Works with various departments to determine needs for video production, set expectations, and gain necessary approvals for projects
Works with strategic lead to ensure all creative output is within brand guidelines, addresses strategic objectives, and delivers against key audiences
Creates briefs that describe each video, capturing expected budget, time involved, script, sets and works of art involved, plus shoot locations
Manages external video production team to create compelling videos for use across all marketing channels
Creates storyboards, scene lists, scripts and direction for specific videos and sets up filming schedules
Manages the editing process with external vendors, ensuring accurate and timely delivery of assets
Works with executive office and various departments to gain approvals for completed videos
Uploads finished products to Vimeo and YouTube
Paid Social Media
Stays attuned to the paid advertising landscape in Houston and the greater art world, regionally and nationally
Helps shape campaigns and messaging through both a deep understanding of exhibitions and initiatives, plus data that inform decisions
Assists Advertising Manager in creating compelling and on-target paid social media, executing content that fulfills a robust schedule with the Museum’s digital advertising agency.
Organic Social Media
Working with Digital Content Creator, assists in increasing engagement on the Museum’s organic social channels, including Instagram, Facebook, and YouTube
Stays abreast of latest developments in social media and shares insights with the marketing team and leadership
Creates a passion for capturing the Museum’s creative landscape, including behind‑the‑scenes and insider content, as well as moments that occur across the campus as visitors engage with the MFAH
Liaison with MFA Shop, Bastion, Bayou Bend, and Rienzi
Works closely with the above departments to plan promotion of shop merchandise and trunk shows, plus events and behind‑the‑scenes stories at MFAH house museums Bayou Bend and Rienzi
Works closely with Bastion Group to coordinate MFAH marketing efforts regarding the Museum’s café and restaurant
Skills, Knowledge And Abilities
Strong creative force, with ability to inspire teammates and support them in making dynamic content
Strong writer who can finesse language, with a wit and style that catches the attention of audiences
Strong visual thinker with a knack for capturing the best images and footage
Experience in video production, with an understanding of what it takes to put together compelling videos
Deadline driven, as part of a team that lives and breathes deadlines
Detail oriented, with a passion for double‑checking
Tech‑savvy, with demonstrated expertise in digital communications
High EQ skills, with the ability to collaborate with colleagues and leadership
Outstanding organizational skills and the ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously while meeting deadlines
Education And Experience
Bachelor's degree in marketing, film, advertising, or related field preferred, OR an equivalent combination of experience and education from which comparable and demonstrable knowledge, skills and abilities have been achieved.
10+ years related work experience, including in the fields of marketing, advertising, or business
Experience in the art world is a plus
