JOB DESCRIPTION

$18/hour
REPORTS TO:
Executive Director
GENERAL DESCRIPTION:
The Communications & Development Specialist is responsible for executing the organization’s external communications and resource development. This position works in close collaboration with the Executive Director, Donor Development Committee, and the Operations Administrator. Duties include coordinating external and media communications, donor data management, light accounting procedures, event coordination, and project‑based work.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Implement strategic use of data and family stories in organizational communications to promote healthier housing for children
Maintain organizational data in the donor database (Salesforce and DonorBox) with consistency and attention to detail for all donor and gift entries
Manage all database operations including data entry, gift recording and acknowledgments, gift reporting, and regular data hygiene
Coordinate all fundraising events including all logistics, committee management, and creation of materials. Work with Executive Director and Donor Development Committee in the solicitation of sponsors, hosts, and attendees for the event
Form and maintain corporate relationships for major donations
Prepare and execute mailings (hard copy and e‑blasts), following a comprehensive donor communication calendar
Create and manage communication pieces including but not limited to appeal letters, thank you letters, newsletters, and digital communication items
Assist with web content management for fundraising and manage online giving forms/subscriptions
Develop reports for the Board and other leadership
Manage the design and publication of the quarterly print newsletter and other marketing materials as required
Form and maintain relationships with media contacts, political figures, and major donors and maintain appropriate communication
Create and disseminate press releases and campaigns for relevant news and events
Photograph and record videos for programs and events, including editing video
Create and manage social media content for the organization’s platforms (currently Facebook, TikTok, Twitter, and LinkedIn)
Track and update the Impact Calendar
ROLE EXPECTATIONS
Stay up to date on the following:
best practices for resources and interventions
local housing programs, policy, and systems
opportunities for continued growth with communication skills, staff development and program management
Be culturally competent and participate in trainings around Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion
Establish and maintain collaborative relationships with other organizations
The work schedule is generally between 8:30 am and 5:30 pm Monday through Thursday, and 8:30 am – 12:30 pm on Friday, with occasional evening and weekend hours required
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum of Associate’s Degree of Arts, Science, Communications, Business Administration, or similar
Pleasant, outgoing, and welcoming personality that can adapt to a variety of personalities
Previous administrative experience with strong computer skills
Exceptional organizational skills with exceptional attention to detail
Excellent written and oral communication skills with efficient typing skills
Ability to prioritize, multitask and make basic arithmetic computations
Working knowledge of customer relationship management (CRM) programs
Solution‑based problem‑solving skills
Dedication to continuous professional growth
Must possess strong work ethics and integrity
Ability to maintain records and to prepare standard reports
Ability to follow directions with minimal supervision
Absolute professionalism when dealing with the public to represent the company in a positive light
Ability to work under tight deadlines with minimum supervision
Proficiency with using social media platforms, such as Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, Instagram, etc.
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS (OPTIONAL)
Bilingual – Spanish (Fluent in speaking and writing)
Proficient in Salesforce
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Ability to bend over and lift up to 25 lbs
Ability to sit for prolonged periods, using a keyboard and phone
Ability to communicate clearly by phone and verbal presentation
