Position Summary
Sam Lena-South Tucson Library seeks a Librarian I to oversee and manage Childrens Services, including outreach and programming. Bilingual Spanish preferred.
Responsibilities
- Provide reference and readers advisory services.
- Develop, facilitate, and present programs and services, including early literacy, community outreach, youth advisory boards, and computer/technology instruction.
- Maintain community partnerships and contribute to a welcoming, inclusive environment.
- Participate in system-wide committee work focused on youth services, adult services, and library strategic directions.
- Supervise library employees, volunteers, and interns through training, scheduling, performance evaluation, and HR-related responsibilities.
- Collect and disseminate information on library collections, catalog, technology, and equipment to support library users.
- Integrate public service best practices, culturally competent programming, public relations, problem solving, conflict management, and complaint resolution.
- Use conflict‑management skills to de‑escalate and address unexpected or volatile situations and complete documentation.
- Perform facilities‑management duties: monitor and report maintenance issues, investigate and resolve operational or technical problems.
- Coordinate and prioritize workload, monitor resource levels, establish timelines, assign work, track progress, recommend changes, and prepare reports.
- Work rotating shifts, including evenings and weekends, as required.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university, majoring in Library Science, Liberal Arts, Social Science, Information Management, Business Administration, Public Administration, or a related field.
- Three years of experience in libraries, customer service, education, social services, or related fields.
