Broward County Library (FL) is an innovative, creative, and resourceful model 21st Century Library that seeks a collaborative, strategic leader with the ability to deliver results as Assistant Director of Libraries. As the 2020 Florida Library of the Year, Broward County Library is one of the busiest Florida library systems with 37 locations. Broward County Libraries has two flagship locations: a Main Library with the Storefront-Artist-in-Residence Program, Active Learning Center, the Studio for Teens, and Small Business Incubator; and the African‑American Research Library and Cultural Center with a museum, art gallery, special collections vault and state‑of‑the‑art auditorium.
The Assistant Director of Libraries assists the Libraries Division Director in the administration and supervision of the public service operations for the library, including policy development, efficient use of resources, planning and organization of service delivery, development of administrative procedures, and motivating staff to achieve new goals and strategic imperatives. Additionally, this position will guide projects from concept to implementation and evaluation and lead the delivery of system‑wide programs and services. The Assistant Director will establish high standards of public service, evaluating the effectiveness of system‑wide programs, services, and events.
Responsibilities
Comprehensive understanding of industry trends and implications; maximizing the use of data for strategic decision making; clearly exhibit excellent leadership skills and a depth of experience in library management and administration, strategic planning, community partnerships, and collaboration; clearly demonstrate a collaborative, team‑oriented leadership style, embracing employee participation at all levels of the organization; actively seek out community participation and engagement, with openness to new ideas, and foster development of community partnerships; strong commitment to continuous improvement and best practices. In partnership with the Leadership Team, the Assistant Director will fulfill the library’s strategic plan by providing direction, oversight, management, and innovation efforts for essential library programs and services; and lead efforts in creating excellent and engaging patron experiences through smart service design and delivery. The Assistant Director must also be able to demonstrate flexibility, adaptability, creativity, embrace and drive effective change initiatives; intellectually engaging with strong interpersonal, communication, and advocacy skills; and have the ability and skill to influence others, negotiate successful resolutions, and engage in effective problem‑solving. Minimum Qualifications
A master’s degree from an accredited college or university in Library Science, Library and Information Science, or a closely related field; six (6) years of progressively responsible experience supervising the operations of a large library system or multiple locations, including four (4) years of supervisory experience.
Compensation
The starting salary range is $125,390.60 – $200,122.87 with placement dependent on qualifications. A competitive benefits package is included.
