Description
This role is located in a fast‑paced Newark, New Jersey location. The Technician will be assigned to service two‑way radio communication, dispatch console, and wireless headset used by ground service agents.
Key Responsibilities
- Systems and component level service and configuration of radio transmitter, receiver, antenna, transmission line, trunked radio systems, and related RF tuned equipment.
- IP networked and analog consoles, control equipment, and related apparatus.
- Apply analog and digital electronic fundamentals to land mobile radio and networked radio technologies.
Technicians work around-the-clock shifts, including weekends and holidays, outdoors in all weather conditions. Schedules are bid and awarded according to seniority.
This role is represented by the International Brotherhood of Teamsters (IBT). Salary increases will be coordinated according to the current IBT/United contract. Shift differentials of $.51 or $.58 per hour for working an afternoon or evening shift respectively are paid in addition to the hourly rate. New employees are required to join the union within ninety (90) days of employment. An initiation fee and subsequent monthly dues apply.
Qualifications
- Must have a valid FCC General Radiotelephone Operator License (GROL), Elements 1 and 3.
- Must have 12 months component level repair and overhaul experience of UHF/VHF transceiver systems or comparable education or experience.
- Knowledge of electrical circuits preferable for communications equipment.
- Must be at least 18 years of age.
- Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without sponsorship.
- Must have computer and networking skills (experience with networks preferred).
- Must have excellent organizational skills.
- Good verbal and written communication skills.
- Acceptable driving record required.
- Must be able to bend, reach, stoop, push, and pull. Mobility requirements include lifting, carrying, crawling, and ladder climbing.
- Customer focused.
- Successful completion of interview required to meet job qualifications.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in electrical/electronic engineering technology preferred.
- Associate degree in electronic technology with 2‑years related experience minimum.
- Experience in a related field may be substituted for education.
Compensation & Benefits
The starting rate for this role is $34.40 per hour. This is also a bonus‑eligible position (profit sharing).
