Position Summary The Manager, Communications plays a central role in shaping AHI’s public voice and visibility. Reporting directly to the CEO, this position develops and executes strategic communications that elevate AHI’s leadership on issues at the intersection of animal health, public health, and food security. This individual will manage media relations, digital content, board and member communications to advance policy and advocacy priorities, engage stakeholders including livestock, companion animals and veterinarians, and strengthen AHI’s brand presence across traditional and digital platforms.
Key Responsibilities
Develop and implement a comprehensive communications strategy to promote AHI’s mission, initiatives, and policy objectives.
Draft, edit, and distribute press releases, op-eds, newsletters, and policy summaries that clearly articulate AHI’s positions and priorities.
Ensure message consistency and quality across all platforms, including print, presentations, web, and social media.
Manage AHI’s website, social media channels, and digital communications to deliver timely, engaging, and visually aligned content.
Track and analyze communications performance metrics to inform strategy and improve reach and engagement.
Coordinate creative and design resources, including external vendors, to maintain brand standards and visual quality.
Support the CEO and senior leadership with speeches, talking points, presentations, and other external messaging.
Support CEO in all board communications.
Collaborate with the policy and advocacy teams to develop campaigns and materials that engage members, policymakers, stakeholders and coalition partners.
Lead communications planning around key policy milestones, media opportunities, and public events.
Qualifications Required:
5–7 years of progressively responsible experience in communications, public affairs, marketing, or media relations.
Exceptional writing, editing, and storytelling skills with the ability to translate complex scientific or policy topics into clear, engaging messages.
Strong understanding of digital and social media strategy, analytics, and content creation.
Demonstrated success developing and managing integrated communications campaigns.
Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Public Relations, Marketing, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
Preferred:
Experience within a trade association, public policy organization, or health-related field.
Familiarity with the legislative and regulatory process affecting health or agriculture sectors.
Proficiency with digital analytics and content tools and platforms.
