Lead Mechanical Designer

Assurant is seeking a Lead Mechanical Designer to join the MT Juliet, TN office. This onsite role involves conceiving, designing, developing, and maintaining innovative products for operations including robotics, mechatronics, sortation solutions, packaging automation, storage, material handling, and other hardware solutions. Responsibilities

Create original detailed designs of unusual and complex machinery using SolidWorks and other engineering software with limited direction from leadership. Develop applications, gather requirements, generate concepts, create architecture, and write specifications. Support the project management team by leading design reviews, creating schedules, tracking project costs, and estimating budgets. Provide training and guidance to lower-level engineers. Manage bill‑of‑materials (BOMs), select vendors, obtain quotes, create purchase requests, and inspect received components. Select vendors for manufacturing. Direct the construction, initialization, setup, and installation of machinery. Lead facility/site acceptance testing (FAT/SAT). Lead troubleshooting of machinery in operation. Requirements

7+ years’ experience using SolidWorks 3D in a professional workplace. 7+ years’ experience using MS Office software, including Word, Excel, & Outlook, & an Associate or Bachelor of Science degree in engineering. 1+ year’s experience using Product Data Management software (e.g., SolidWorks PDM, Windchill, Autodesk Vault). 1+ year’s experience using finite element analysis (FEA) software (e.g., SolidWorks Simulation, ANSYS, Nastran). Advanced knowledge of mechanical design principles, shop practices, troubleshooting, & testing. Ability & desire to lead project plans & direct engineering staff. Advanced knowledge of documentation & communication of technical subject matter. Advanced knowledge of designing & detailing components manufactured by machining, sheet‑metal forming, welding, & additive manufacturing. Advanced knowledge of automated machinery, including robots, pneumatics, conveyors, & frames. Advanced knowledge of automation design techniques & principles for creating automation & test stations & machines. Advanced understanding of automated systems & the supplier network to select & recommend the correct components at or below budget requirements. Advanced knowledge of design for manufacturability & assembly to ensure ease of assembly & maintenance. Advanced knowledge of manufacturing processes, materials, & finishes. Negotiation of contracts. Preferred Skills / Experience

Bachelor or Master of Science degree in engineering. SolidWorks certification. Experience using standard measuring tools for reverse engineering & quality control. Familiarity with automation technologies within automotive, consumer product, or medical device industries. Familiarity with component presentation, feed systems, dispensing, marking, industrial vision, & sensing. Familiarity with motion control, including servo, AC motors, & linear motors. Pay Range
