Public Information Director II (61031674) This position is with the South Carolina Department of Transportation. The incumbent will serve as a spokesperson and manage all public information, media relations, and communication strategies for the agency.

Job Responsibilities

Respond to media inquiries, provide accurate and timely information, and serve as agency spokesperson.

Produce and circulate agency messages and brand communications, including news releases, articles, scripts, videos, speeches, op‑ed pieces, letters-to-the-editor, media campaigns, and educational materials.

Maintain the electronic database and press release internet page, post releases and digital photos on the web site regarding construction, maintenance, general agency news, public meetings, and weather emergencies.

Coordinate with Public Information Officers to disseminate consistent information across social media platforms and respond to media requests.

Plan communication strategies, long‑range public information and education programs, and collaborate with the public engagement team to achieve agency goals.

Handle confidential and sensitive information, keeping leadership informed.

Provide media members with updates on projects, assist new reporters, and maintain strong media relationships.

Develop policies and systems for information release and distribution, tracking media requests and coverage, and generate analytic reports using monitoring software.

Coordinate planning of special events, news conferences, tours, conferences, and media interviews with other public engagement staff.

Perform other related duties as assigned.

Minimum and Additional Requirements A bachelor’s degree and three (3) years of relevant experience; or an approved acceptable equivalence. A valid motor vehicle operator’s license is required. Physical demands include extended periods of sitting or standing at a desk, working on a computer, and lifting up to 30 lbs.
