Job Description The Manager Solutions Design is responsible for supporting the growth of Ryder’s Supply Chain Solutions offering by developing, designing, and winning new business through the following activities:

Demonstrating an understanding of the customer’s business.

Designing solutions that deliver financial value to customers.

Providing feasible designs aligned with the customer’s needs.

Assisting the pursuit team to shape win plans consistent with our solution design.

Developing sustainable designs aligned with Ryder’s operational and technical capabilities.

Contributing to proposals that influence the customer’s decision to select Ryder.

Supporting awarded business throughout the startup process, transitioning design and proposal assumptions to Operations and SCE CI resources through the Customer Due Diligence process.

The Manager Solutions Design may be aligned by either industry verticals or by design discipline and helps lead the new business pursuit team and individual opportunities. The Manager may provide direction to various subject matter experts (SMEs) or act as an independent team member to help successfully lead the pursuit from start to finish through all stages of the opportunity and transition during startup.

Key Activities

Manage a subset of project team members or act as an independent contributor, specializing in select design disciplines (transportation, warehousing, or network design) or industry solutions (e.g., packaging, inbound to manufacturing, integrated transportation, temperature‑controlled).

Mentor and advise SD team members on modeling and design techniques to create, redesign, or optimize logistics networks.

Act as a solution‑design specialist, usually more than one discipline (but not required).

Effectively communicate the design and solution to internal stakeholders and the client.

Use advanced analytical techniques and concepts to understand the business.

Essential Functions

Lead cross‑functional teams to ensure alignment of solution development with win strategy.

Maintain effective communication across all team members as the solution develops.

Meet frequently with customers and cross‑functional bid‑response teams; support technical review presentations and design validation meetings.

Calculate labor, equipment, facility and expense requirements based on transportation and warehousing design assumptions.

Develop process flows, concept of operations, and value propositions consistent with the win strategy; work with IT to develop concept of systems.

Coordinate with Pricing and other functions to develop cost and pricing models and relevant assumptions.

Clearly articulate value propositions, Ryder’s differentiated value, and proposed solution in proposals.

Collaborate with Sales leaders to develop win strategy, research industry and customer pain points, understand competitive landscape, and position Ryder to win.

Validate data, cleanse, profile, develop baselines, and define scenarios to model.

Develop optimization scenarios and strategies aligned with objectives.

Develop and improve engineering tools and methodologies to ensure industry best practices.

Utilize a consultative approach to projects, understand customers’ pain points, develop, and present solutions.

Follow up on implementation—validate and modify deployed processes to ensure they match the plan.

Skills and Abilities

Superb data organization and cleansing skills.

Advanced skills and concepts using design applications, tools, techniques, and methodologies to analyze and design complex transportation and warehousing networks.

Familiarity with simulation tools, transportation & warehouse management systems, ERPs, automation, MHE, visibility tools, and industry leading technologies (preferred).

Ability to influence project teams using facts, statistics, and analytics.

Comprehension of complex supply chain and transportation solutions and segmentation of design processes into manageable elements and steps.

Excellent verbal, written, and presentation skills; ability to translate complex designs and concepts into terms readily understood.

Ability to create and maintain professional relationships at all levels of the organization.

Microsoft Office Suite skills with emphasis on Access, Excel, and PowerPoint (expert required).

Proficiency using AutoCAD to develop facility layouts reflecting proposed solutions.

Warehouse design knowledge: extensive knowledge of warehouse management operations, data analytics, industrial engineering, warehouse types (ambient, temperature‑controlled, layout/design, Lean methods); required knowledge of material‑handling solutions and automation types such as powered industrial trucks, racking and storage solutions, packaging equipment, conveyor and sortation equipment, and other automation solutions (e.g., AGVs/RS). Warehouse design tools: AutoCAD, slotting (Slot3D), MOST, simulation software, WMS such as Manhattan, and data analytics platforms such as Tableau. Expert required.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Business, Supply Chain Management, or Industrial Engineering.

Eight (8) or more years in warehousing and/or manufacturing (e.g., industrial engineering, warehouse operations, operations).

Travel 15% to 20% travel. Remote position with some travel.

Job Category Solutions Design

Compensation Pay type: Salaried

Minimum pay: $125,000

Maximum pay: $140,000
