Distinguishing Features of the Class

Adjunct faculty teach department courses part‑time and evaluate student performance under college guidelines. They report to the Department Chair, prepare lesson plans, teaching aids, and instructional materials, and maintain accurate student records for the department and college.

Typical Work Activities

• Demonstrates appropriate knowledge of subject.
• Provides students with appropriate learning materials and expertise in assigned subject(s).
• Prepares course syllabi and outcomes.
• Encourages student participation.
• Evaluates students' performance based on course learning outcomes.
• Establishes and maintains an organized and disciplined classroom environment.
• Responds to students and provides assistance and guidance.
• Contributes to and maintains an inclusive and collaborative college environment.
• Adheres to all college, department, and applicable county policies.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Candidates must demonstrate awareness and sensitivity to promote an inclusive, diverse learning environment; possess strong knowledge of their field; employ diverse teaching strategies; value technology for teaching; manage computerized student records; develop educational programs; teach effectively at the college level; show initiative, resourcefulness, dependability; get along well with others; communicate effectively; and be physically capable of performing essential functions.

Minimum Qualifications

• Master's Degree or MFA preferred. Degree in Communication or Digital Media preferred.
