Job Summary

Develop user interfaces and themes for web applications, campus map, campus portal, mobile app and other campus web systems. Execute all design stages from concept to final hand-off, including building front-end assets (HTML / CSS / JS) and versioning via GIT. Create wireframes, storyboards, user flows, and process flows to effectively communicate user interaction and design ideas. Provide department, division and campus with design consultation based on CSUSB standards.

Responsibilities

  • Develop user interfaces and themes for web applications, campus map, campus portal, mobile app, and other campus web systems. Utilize user feedback and collaborate with project teams to ensure designs are effective, user-centered, and aligned with requirements. Create custom themes and extend existing themes for Drupal and any necessary third‑party systems. Execute all design stages from concept to final hand-off, including building front-end assets (HTML / CSS / JS) and versioning via GIT.
  • Create wireframes, storyboards, user flows, and process flows to effectively communicate user interaction and design ideas. Present designs and key milestone deliverables to peers and executive level stakeholders. Conceptualize original ideas that bring simplicity and user‑friendliness to complex design requirements. Create mock‑ups of user interfaces based on client specifications.
  • Promote design guidelines, best practices and standards across multiple platforms. Provide department, division and campus with design consultation based on CSUSB standards. Work cooperatively with the Office of Marketing & Communications to achieve objectives and adhere to university branding guidelines.
  • Adhere and apply Web Accessibility guidelines to the CMS environment and other appropriate web environments.
  • Perform other job‑related duties as assigned by the Administrator or designee. Stay current with emerging technology and industry trends to improve the user experience.

Minimum Qualifications

Equivalent to a bachelor's degree in a related field and two years of relevant experience.

Additional experience which demonstrates acquired and successfully applied knowledge and abilities shown above may be substituted for the required education on a year‑for‑year basis. An advanced degree in a related field may be substituted for the required experience on a year‑for‑year basis.

Required Qualifications

  • Working knowledge and ability to design scenarios, sketches, story boards, user personas, user flows, wireframes, motion studies, and prototypes.
  • Working knowledge of user experience research and design principles.
  • Strong project management, planning, and organizational skills to plan, organize, and manage multiple projects.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to conduct focus groups and related assessment research and brainstorming sessions.
  • Strong analytical skills to evaluate and understand user and business needs and design, develop, and implement solutions.
  • Skill in leading, directing, and training others.
  • Proficiency in using applicable software and design platforms.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Proficient understanding in the creation of Drupal & Twig theming.
  • Understanding of code versioning tools, such as Git.
  • Experience working in higher education.
  • Understanding of WCAG 2.2 web accessibility content guidelines.
  • Proficient in image authoring tools such as Illustrator or Photoshop.
  • Proficient understanding of web markup, including HTML5, CSS3.
  • Proficient understanding of server‑side CSS pre‑processing platforms, such as LESS and SASS.
  • Understanding of advanced JavaScript libraries and frameworks, such as jQuery, NodeJS, and React.
  • Bachelor's Degree (or equivalent related experience) in Computer Science, UX Development, Design, or related field.
  • At least 2 years front‑end development experience.
