Job Summary
Director of Sales and Marketing (DOSM) is responsible for identifying and engaging both leisure and group clients with confidence and professionalism. This onsite role develops and executes the hotel’s sales and marketing strategies, secures new business, nurtures existing relationships, and ensures maximum profitability and guest satisfaction.
The DOSM will sell guest rooms, catering services, and event spaces through proactive outreach and relationship-building. This role involves creating and maintaining a robust client base across organizations, associations, and corporate markets while collaborating with the Managing Director to implement strategic pricing and revenue strategies aligned with budget goals.
Responsibilities
Lead all hotel sales initiatives and ensure team performance based on the annual Marketing Plan.
Manage the Marketing and Social Budget within approved limits.
Conduct proactive prospecting and sales calls.
Schedule and host onsite appointments, including property tours.
Secure new business through strategic outreach.
Maintain deep knowledge of competitive properties and market trends.
Keep accurate account records and contact files.
Prepare weekly sales activity reports for the Managing Director.
Coordinate and conduct sales blitzes as needed.
Support development and execution of annual Sales, Marketing, and Revenue plans.
Train guest service and property management teams in effective selling techniques.
Represent the hotel at community, industry, and networking events.
Ensure all sales materials remain current, accurate, and professional.
Foster strong working relationships across departments.
Attend trade shows and industry functions to strengthen the hotel’s visibility.
Plan and conduct sales trips to key markets; identify new growth opportunities.
Collaborate closely with the PR firm.
Oversee media activities across all platforms—print, digital, outdoor, radio, and social media.
Develop an annual Sales & Marketing plan with departmental action plans.
Continually assess and respond to market changes.
Use financial and competitive data to inform strategy.
Deliver exceptional customer service; tailor solutions to drive revenue growth.
Effectively lead and motivate the sales and catering team.
Maintain strong relationships with local decision-makers and partners.
Perform additional duties as assigned by the Managing Director and COO.
Qualifications Education & Training
Bachelor’s degree in Business, Finance, Marketing, or related field preferred.
2+ years of progressive hotel sales experience preferred.
Alternative combinations of education and experience will be considered.
Experience
Experience with leisure markets and travel agent sales.
Background in digital marketing and working with PR/communications agencies.
Hotel opening or independent hotel brand experience is a plus.
Valid driver’s license required.
Knowledge & Skills
Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to influence and negotiate.
Advanced selling skills: opening, probing, presenting, and closing.
Strategic thinker with strong analytical abilities.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office and general computer systems.
Ability to manage multiple tasks independently.
Strong organizational and presentation abilities.
Demonstrated success leading diverse teams.
Extensive knowledge of sales, marketing, and hospitality principles.
Ability to remain composed under pressure.
Must be able to interpret financial data and apply basic arithmetic.
Physical Requirements
Ability to perform essential job functions in compliance with ADA, FMLA, and all applicable regulations.
Consistent and punctual attendance required.
Ability to work nights and weekends depending on business needs.
Able to stand at least 60% of the time.
Ability to sit and squat frequently.
