About the Role The Senior Designer is responsible for developing innovative products for the Pillow category that support the vision of the brand. This role combines creative expertise with a strong understanding of market trends, material, and customer need. This role partners closely with cross‑functional teams to develop product that is brand right, ensure quality execution, and drive business growth across the category. Reporting into the Head Design Manager, this role is an exciting opportunity to grow a large and successful textile business and drive innovation and incremental ideas to expand the business.

Responsibilities Design Development

Manage the daily functions of the development process

Translate seasonal concept direction into cohesive and innovative collections

Collaborate with the print team to develop prints that align with the seasonal concept and are product appropriate.

Build seasonal presentations to convey the direction for the pillow category

Work with team to maintain visual line list and presentation in deck and board format

Assist and lead during design presentations

Manage development samples both physically and digitally

Understanding of fabric qualities and constructions, techniques, and how they affect price points, look, and end use

Work proactively according to development calendar to stay ahead of timelines

Collaboration & Execution

Partner closely with PD and merchant partners to ensure design intent through sampling and timeline adherence.

Work rigorously with overseas partners and vendors to achieve desired quality and look

Ensure all technical specifications and communication with vendors including making comments on samples, and sending product approvals in PLM. Thoroughly review with the team for accuracy and completeness before issued.

Assist team members in managing their workload as required.

Market and Trend awareness

Constantly stay aware of competitive landscape and identify trends to move the design direction forward

Translate trend insights into actionable design direction

Criteria

MUST provide Portfolio link (including password) on resume - or link to PDF work samples with application

Bachelor’s Degree in Textile Design or related field

Minimum 8 years of design work experience, preferably in home furnishings or textiles

Must be expert level in Adobe Creative Suite

Strong conceptual vision with deep technical expertise in woven, printed, and embellished textiles.

Extremely organized, efficient and detail-oriented – excellent calendar adherence and ownership

Excellent communication and presentation skills.

Elevated taste level with a passion for home furnishings, textiles, color, interiors, and knowledge of industry trends

Excellent cross functional skills and partnership with a passion for creative problem‑solving.

Ability for strategic thinking and understanding of white space in marketplace

Ability to work independently as well as with a team in a fast‑paced environment

Ability to prioritize, multi‑task and adapt to change

Understanding and enthusiasm for the West Elm brand

This role requires being onsite in the Dumbo Brooklyn office

The expected starting pay range for this position is $105,000 - $125,000. Applicable pay ranges may differ across markets. Actual pay will be determined based on experience and other job‑related factors permitted by law. In addition to competitive pay, compensation may include a variety of other components like benefits, paid time off, merit, and bonus opportunities.
