Title: Communications Operator
Location: Clara Maass Medical Center, 1 Clara Maass Drive, Belleville, NJ 07109
Department: IT&S Telecommunications
Shift: Day (Per Diem) – Status: Hourly
Pay Range: $18.97 per hour
Pay Transparency The above reflects the anticipated hourly wage range for this position if hired to work in New Jersey. The compensation offered to the candidate selected for the position will depend on several factors including the candidate's educational background, skills and professional experience.
Qualifications
High school graduate or equivalent
Previous experience in a telecommunications or customer service role
Proficiency in operating phone systems and/or computer-based switchboards
Strong verbal communication skills
Ability to handle high stress situations
English is a must
Preferred
Knowledge of hospital operations and medical terminology is a plus
English is a must, other languages are a plus
Scheduling Requirements
Shift work including nights, weekends, and holidays may be required
Days
Essential Functions
Relay incoming and outgoing calls promptly and courteously
Handle callers professionally and helpfully
Monitor operations of telephone and paging systems
Ensure that telephone equipment is in good working order and that problems are reported to the proper department
Monitor emergency alarms and medical alarms located in the office
Communicate medical and other information to authorized recipients
Operate the hospital’s telecommunication systems (e.g., multi-line phone systems, computer based switchboards, and in-house paging system)
Announce and beep medical codes, disasters, and other emergencies in accordance with hospital and system policies
Maintain accurate records of emergency calls
Demonstrate a thorough awareness of and familiarity with information resources in the department
Work closely with other hospital staff to ensure seamless communication and patient satisfaction
Other Duties Other duties may be assigned to meet the needs of the department and the organization.
