Marketing Communications Specialist
Performs communications work by managing the City’s social and digital media efforts, developing content, and attending events to support communication initiatives, along with executing related tasks as assigned. Work is performed under the supervision of the Communications Director. Work hours are
7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday , with one hour for lunch.
Minimum Qualifications
Degree with coursework in Public Relations, Communications, Marketing, Journalism, or a related field, and experience in social media engagement across various platforms, public relations, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Minimum of 6 months of work experience in communications, public relations, social media management, and/or marketing is highly preferred, with particular emphasis on experience in social media and content creation.
Experience using basic business software such as Microsoft Office, social media scheduling software, email communications software, web content management systems (Wix, CivicPlus), and project management software (Basecamp). Must be able to quickly adapt to new technologies.
Ability to capture and edit high-quality photos and video.
Comfortable on camera and performing voiceover work for social media posts.
Valid Indiana driver’s license, reliable transportation throughout the workday, and ability to be insured to drive a city vehicle.
Strong ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
Ability to independently plan, organize, and prioritize work, as well as manage multiple projects simultaneously.
Flexible, self-directed, detail‑oriented problem solver.
Must be able to work some evenings, weekends, and holidays throughout the year with as much advanced notice as possible.
Frequent independent travel throughout the City of Westfield is expected.
This is an on‑site in‑office role with some work at various City locations. Remote work is not available for this position.
Essential Functions
Create engaging digital content, including videos, photos, and graphics for social media, e‑newsletters, and web platforms.
Support initiatives and campaigns as directed through marketing, digital communications, and promotional support.
Proactively seek marketing assets to create digital and print content for social media and promotional purposes (capturing photo and video content on site at events and in City parks).
Monitor and report on trends, analytics, and insights related to social media engagement through monthly reporting; research and implement best practices for enhancing digital communications.
Assist with media relations tasks, including authoring media materials, fulfilling photo requests, and coordinating interviews and video shoots.
Provide on‑site event support, including social media posting during events, event photography, and other duties as needed (some nights, weekends, and holidays required).
Assist with presentation creation.
Update and maintain website content (CivicPlus editing experience a plus).
Act as a back‑up for social media content creation and assist with digital communications and marketing, including drafting, creating, posting, and scheduling all social media for the department.
Supplemental Information Thorough knowledge of digital and social media tools and tactics, City services, and departmental programs; general knowledge of modern principles, practices, and techniques of professional communication; and strong writing, editing, and content creation skills. Knowledge of Social News Desk, website editing platforms, and Adobe Creative Suite/Adobe Express is a plus.
