Description We seek an experienced marketing automation subject matter expert to expand our established omnichannel team. The Director, Marketing Automation Strategy partners with cross-functional subject matter experts to support global pharmaceutical and biotech clients in both consulting-based and standard AOR structured engagements. The team utilizes an agile-inspired methodology that informs both how it collaborates (lean, collaborative matrix team) and how work moves through the system (Kanban with adapted SCRUM methods).

Clients seeking omnichannel capabilities : Participate in designing and executing organizational transformation initiatives that help clients accelerate their journey to become truly omnichannel enterprises.

Clients with existing omnichannel capabilities : Assist with initiatives to upskill omnichannel abilities and serve as an in-house subject-matter expert, supporting agency teams that need to translate creative campaigns into effective omnichannel campaigns.

Unique agility / non-standard AOR projects : Apply your skillsets alongside purposefully assembled nimble teams to tackle unique one-off client challenges not well-suited for standard AOR engagements.

SME support to standard AOR teams : Provide support to standard AOR client engagements as a billable resource as needed.

Other Important Details About the Role

Lead client initiatives across marketing automation strategy/implementation and advanced analytics-driven optimization. Skills may be focused on strategic thinking and system design for one project while also doing implementation on another.

Critical thinking and the ability to unpack audacious, often ambiguous challenges into smaller, addressable workstreams that can be orchestrated into a roadmap.

Highly customer‑facing, bridging relationships within our internal Syneos network and building relationships with new and existing external clients.

Stay on top of emerging trends and changing privacy laws that impact CX Design, marketing automation, and the compliant use of data.

Job Responsibilities

Assist clients in implementing and managing digital marketing technologies, offering recommendations on emerging tools for enhanced performance.

Collaborate closely with client stakeholders to develop strategies for improving digital campaign effectiveness, customer acquisition, and engagement across touchpoints.

Act as a liaison between IT departments and clients to ensure seamless data integration into data lake and analytics platforms.

Help formulate a client‑centric technology roadmap, including current stack optimizations and future technology acquisitions.

Support the streamlining and automation of campaign operations, focusing on maximizing performance, efficiency, and scalability.

Implement marketing automation governance protocols for clients to ensure consistent and compliant technology usage across campaigns and teams.

Facilitate process standardization, working closely with clients to establish best practices in marketing automation that can be replicated across campaigns and platforms.

Review and document existing client workflows to identify opportunities for automation process improvements, making recommendations for standardization where appropriate.

Create and maintain comprehensive documentation for clients, detailing marketing automation configurations, governance policies, and best practices for easy reference and future scaling.

Partner with analytics teams to provide clients with robust tracking and reporting mechanisms for performance insights.

Monitor and assist in planning for the necessary resources and infrastructure to accommodate business growth and adaptability.

Support client projects in an agile environment, demonstrating flexibility as requirements and priorities evolve.

Demonstrate strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret data, generate insights, and make data‑driven decisions.

Qualification Requirements

5‑7+ years of data‑driven marketing automation strategy experience (agency, client, consultant). Healthcare marketing experience is a plus.

Proficiency in Marketo required. Additional experience with any of the following platforms is a plus: Adobe Suite (AEM, Audience, Target, Marketo), Salesforce Marketing Cloud, Tealium, Veeva HubSpot, Pardot, or similar tools.

In‑depth knowledge of email marketing best practices, lead nurturing strategies, and customer segmentation techniques.

Familiarity with CRM systems and their integration with marketing automation platforms.

Excellent project management skills with the ability to handle multiple projects and meet deadlines in a fast‑paced environment.

Effective written and verbal communication skills and the ability to convey marketing technology strategies to internal cross‑discipline team members and clients to drive the work and the process efficiently – a creative and strategic mindset with a passion for innovation and continuous improvement.

Experience with global clients and regional roll‑outs.

Additional Skills (Plus)

Know how to assess martech system capabilities and assemble prioritized roadmaps.

Value the importance of data quality as it relates to AI and ML.

Working knowledge of APIs and ETL tools (e.g., Postman, Mulesoft, Informatica, Databricks).

Understand how front‑end customer experiences require back‑end connectivity.

Experience working with patient data to develop HIPAA‑compliant CRM programs.

Agile methodology experience.

Compensation The annual base salary for this position ranges from $140,000 to $155,000. The base salary range represents the anticipated low and high of the Syneos Health range for this position. Actual salary will vary based on various factors such as the candidate's qualifications, skills, competencies, and proficiency for the role. In addition, some positions may include eligibility to earn commissions/bonus based on company and/or individual performance.
