Admitting Officer I – UI Health, Patient Access
Location: Chicago, IL – Hybrid (Days, Monday – Friday, 7.5 hours/day)

Salary Range: $30.07 – $46.52 per Hour (commensurate with experience)

The incumbent reports to the Assistant Director of Revenue Management and performs basic insurance verification and pre‑authorization for outpatient services, ensuring medical necessity guidelines are met and payer requirements are satisfied for reimbursement optimization.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Contact insurance providers to obtain authorizations prior to service; coordinate third‑party payer authorizations; monitor expirations and initiate extensions; document and update all authorizations in UI Health systems.
- Maintain work queues, meet expected lead times, document and close tasks upon completion; update work in progress and maintain organization while completing tasks.
- Consistently perform and exceed departmental minimum expected productivity goals.
- Complete patient registration and coverage verification; determine patient eligibility for UI Health care; contact patients for insurance information; provide self‑pay policy information; update demographic, coverage, and eligibility data in UI Health system.
- Provide excellent customer service to patients, providers, and clinic staff in person and via telephone; complete interactions with respect and courtesy; provide general UI Health information when appropriate.
- Continuously educate on payer requirements and UI Health contracts; maintain technical knowledge of necessary financial clearance at UI Health for intended services; stay up to date on policy changes.
- Maintain competency and technical knowledge; maintain a working knowledge of registration and eligibility systems.
- Perform other related duties and participate in special projects as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- One (1) year (12 months) of work experience in a medical setting obtaining pre‑authorization approval from medical insurance, or work experience in a medical setting that could include business administration, customer service, health information technology, medical insurance, patient admission/registration, patient services, or closely related experience.
- College coursework or training in a closely related field (e.g., business, health sciences, public health) that equals at least one year of experience.
Preferred Qualifications
- Demonstrated experience in healthcare registration and/or financial clearance processes and/or completing payer authorization processes.
