TEKsystems is in need of a Telecommunications Helper for our client in the Wellsburg, WV market. This client is a communications contractor offering a full range of fiber optic and cable network services. Servicing Cox Communications, Comcast Cable, Segra and Suddenlink in the States of Virginia, West Virginia, Maryland, North Carolina, Tennessee, Florida, Pennsylvania, New Jersey and in Washington D.C., we are a trusted resource for cabling and maintaining high-speed internet connectivity via fiber optic and coaxial systems.
Responsibilities
Technicians will be aligned geographically and will be responsible for hands‑on cable construction in the WV markets.
Crews will work alongside a lead out in the field.
Technicians will be managed and held to standards by construction coordinators and customers.
Technicians should have experience with UG construction, pulling fiber or coax, digging, utilities, etc.
Technicians are expected to have experience using basic hand tools and being a team player.
Technicians will be hand‑digging, site organizing, pulling underground and aerial cables, and helping where needed so initiative out in the field.
Team players are required to help where it is needed in the OSP underground environment, demonstrate reliability, integrity, and work ethic.
Job Requirements (but not limited to)
Underground fiber/coax construction experience.
Ability to hand dig, rod and rope, set vaults, set peds, and pull fiber/coax.
Must be able to drive a truck and trailer.
Equipment operating skills is a plus.
Must be able to dig a trench.
Construction background in underground utilities is a plus.
Ability to read HFC maps/prints to understand project scope.
Ability to climb poles, utilizing gaffs, ladder, and a bucket truck to perform work where required.
Maintain visual and vocal contact with crew members and all moving or stationary people, vehicles, and objects to guarantee safe movement coordination.
Recognize and enforce safe working environments in Public Right‑of‑Way areas, including worksite traffic‑control best practices.
Produce accurate post‑construction as‑built markup maps (typically through red‑lined PDF files).
Provide daily production reports via email/Excel or additional tracking methods.
Maintain aerial specifications when placing overhead lines.
Knowledge of HFC design.
Effectively communicate with others and work within a team environment.
Be at work every day at 7am.
Possession of a valid driver’s license.
Pass a drug screening.
Read and understand technical instruction.
Lift up to 50–80 pounds.
Operate in various environments.
Pass a DOT physical.
Must be 21 to apply.
Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Wellsburg, WV.
Pay and Benefits
Pay range: $18.00 – $25.00/hr.
