Job Overview A communications contractor is seeking Underground Telecommunications Construction Technicians to support broadband infrastructure projects in the West Virginia market. Technicians will work in geographically aligned field crews alongside a lead, contributing to underground cable installations.
Key Responsibilities
Perform underground construction tasks.
Pull fiber and coaxial cables.
Hand dig trenches and organize construction sites.
Assist with utility work and traffic control.
Operate basic hand tools and support team operations.
Read and interpret HFC maps and construction prints.
Maintain visual and vocal contact with crew members for safety.
Enforce safe working practices in public right‑of‑way environments.
Produce accurate post‑construction as‑built markups (e.g., red‑lined PDFs).
Submit daily production reports via email or Excel.
Top Skills Required
1+ years of experience in underground telecommunications construction (preferred).
Solid knowledge of hand tools and mechanical aptitude.
Strong reliability, integrity, and work ethic.
Willingness to take initiative and support team needs.
Additional Qualifications
Ability to hand dig, rod and rope, set vaults and pedestals, and pull fiber/coax.
Ability to drive a truck and trailer (must be 21+).
Equipment operating skills (preferred).
Background in underground utility construction (preferred).
Knowledge of HFC network design.
Effective communication and teamwork skills.
Ability to lift 50–80 pounds and work in various weather conditions.
Ability to read and understand technical instructions.
Valid driver’s license.
High School Diploma or GED.
