Job Description
The City of Saratoga Springs currently has openings for Library Clerk I and II; you must be able to work one of the schedules listed below.
The Library Clerk I performs a variety of basic duties related to the circulation of materials, special programming and assisting customers. This position requires attention to detail, good organization skills, basic knowledge of library reference, circulation, cataloging and classification methods, practices and procedures, and the ability to work positively with the general public. This position requires a general understanding of the department's mission, goals, services, technology, policies, and procedures.

You must be able to work the schedule listed under schedule to be eligible for the position. Library Clerk II works under the specific direction of a Librarian and the general supervision of Library Director. All employees are also under the general supervision of the City Manager.

Performs general duties related to the circulation of library materials; attends circulation desk; greets customers and assists with requests; initiates exchange of information required in the registration of accounts and the lending of library materials; checks in and checks out library materials
Employee is expected to have a good understanding of the work unit and its services to respond to inquiries
Under direct supervision may be responsible for inventory, following up on item search requests, following the overdue procedures, and running reports in the Koha
Reporting general issues with customers, facilities and/or equipment to Library Assistant or Librarian on shift as necessary
Refers in-depth questions requiring more research assistance to a Library Assistant or Librarian
The employee is responsible for interpreting and applying library policies and procedures
Provides basic technology assistance to customers regarding library technology, applications on their own devices, and services, including library-owned computers
Segregates books and other materials needing repairs; mends books and materials as needed; applies dust jacket covers
Assists customers in locating books and materials
Shelves, carts, and shelf‑reads to ensure the order of materials
Assists with the delivery of special reading programs and services (children, adult, young adult)
Assists in conducting library tours for children, classes and civic groups
Performs other duties as assigned
Qualifications Library Clerk I Education & Experience:
A high school diploma or GED equivalent
Must be able to read and write in English and perform basic mathematic functions
Six (6) months previous library experience
Certifications Required:
One (1) Uplift Certification Course through the Utah State Library, or forty (40) training hours in equivalent library coursework
First Aid
CPR
Library Clerk II Education & Experience:
A high school diploma or GED equivalent
Must be able to read and write in English and perform basic mathematic functions
One (1) year previous experience as a Library Clerk I
Certifications Required:
Three (3) Uplift Certification Courses through the Utah State Library, or eighty (80) training hours in equivalent library coursework

Ability to proficiently operate a computer and instruct others on how to perform basic computer functions

Perform all cash handling procedures as outlined in the Cash Handling Procedures manual
Ability to utilize Microsoft Word, Excel, Power Point, Internet Explorer, and related software
Ability to utilize Koha ILS software
Ability to utilize self-check units, inventory wand, RFID antennas, and automatic material handler for AMH returns
Ability to utilize efficiently office equipment including, but not limited to, a photocopier, telephone, facsimile, calculator, and shredder
Ability to utilize efficiently time management skills

Compensation and Benefits Salary Range:
