DOG MAN: THE MUSICAL

TheaterWorksUSA is seeking a qualified Production Stage Manager for its current touring production of Dog Man: The Musical. The production will travel around the United States and Canada performing at various theaters and concert venues. This position reports to the NY-Based TheaterWorksUSA Director of Production and Company Manager, who is not travelling with the production; an ideal candidate will have strong self-accountability and should be comfortable operating independently.

Touring company travels in 3 mini-vans (company members can elect to join an AEA driver rider to drive vehicles with additional compensation), production elements travel separately in one 52’ semi-truck, company members do not drive the truck. Production stops in 2-4 cities per week.

Route information available here, route is highly subject to change, more stops will be added, and cities can be removed at any time.

THIS IS A TOURING POSITION THAT TRAVELS ACROSS THE U.S.-CANADA BORDER. APPLICANTS MUST HOLD A VALID PASSPORT WHICH MUST BE VALID THROUGH SEPTEMBER 30, 2026.

A successful candidate will have the following:

  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience as a manager, head position, or supervisor in a theatrical/stage managerial capacity.
  • Prior national touring experience is required.
  • A commitment to fostering an equitable and inclusive community.
  • A collaborative team member, empathetic listener, and solution-oriented problem solver.
  • Strong emotional intelligence, emphasizing open and honest communication.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously with strong attention to detail.
  • A passion for theater for young and family audiences.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel. Knowledge of QLab is a plus.
  • Experience calling light and sound cue heavy shows.
  • Experience leading conventional front light focus.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.

Duties, Responsibilities, and Expectations:

  • Directly manage Assistant Stage Manager and 9 AEA touring actors.
  • Work with ASM and IATSE crew heads, alongside the main office, to oversee the touring company as a team and foster a cohesive community on the road.
  • Work alongside the IATSE crew head to advance the technical and production elements of the production prior to arrival.
  • Take and implement creative and technical notes during rehearsals and performances.
  • Along with ASM and IATSE crew heads, lead and manage local crew and Actor/ASMs at each venue throughout load in, performances, and load out.
  • During load in, direct local electricians in focusing conventional front light.
  • PSM and ASM will both be expected to be proficient at both calling the show and running the backstage deck track. PSM will manage and schedule a rotation for both SM team members to call the show, run the deck, note the show, and complete office work during performances as necessary.
  • PSM will create and manage a swing-out schedule to allow swings stay fresh on performances, and for dance captain to watch and note performances.
  • Participate in production and management meetings, both during pre-production and after opening throughout the tour.
  • Along with ASM, schedule daily calls and travel calls based on the provided itinerary.
  • Submit rehearsal and performance reports promptly to TWUSA offices at the closure of each workday.
  • Ensure compliance with all Actors’ Equity TWUSA Contract rules and report any overtime or infractions to TWUSA offices.
