The Transportation Department of NCTCOG is seeking a Communications Specialist to support its public involvement program. This position will assist with public meetings, public comments, a virtual public engagement platform and contribute to major communications and public relations activities.

Responsibilities

Drafting public meeting notices and meeting minutes for supervisor review, and coordinating presentation materials.

Assisting with the coordination and attendance of in‑person public meetings at the NCTCOG main campus in Arlington and throughout the Dallas‑Fort Worth region.

Working with the supervisor to implement public involvement strategies and tactics for special transportation and air‑quality‑related projects.

Utilizing the department’s virtual public engagement platform to host online and hybrid public meetings.

Drafting responses to public comments and preparing monthly comment reports for supervisor review.

Evaluating communication and outreach strategies related to public involvement efforts through data tracking and analysis.

Contributing creative and innovative ideas for improving the public involvement process.

Implementing marketing and public relations strategies for educational campaigns targeting the Dallas‑Fort Worth business community.

Assisting in business outreach efforts, including site visits and stakeholder meetings.

Representing the Transportation Department by attending committee meetings and events.

Skills/Requirements

Working knowledge of Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Outlook, and Publisher.

Familiarity with Adobe Communications Cloud.

Working knowledge of design software (preferred).

Good communication skills, both verbal and written, and interpersonal skills with the ability to listen, follow instructions, collaborate, and present ideas.

Detail‑oriented, highly organized, and able to manage multiple assignments in a deadline‑driven environment without compromising quality.

Ability to work independently and in a team environment.

Experience

Broad knowledge in a professional or technical field, normally acquired through a four‑year college degree (e.g., strategic communications, public relations, marketing, public administration or a related field).

One year or less of work‑related experience.

Starting Salary Range Minimum of $49,022.46 - $58,826.95 annually

The North Central Texas Council of Governments (NCTCOG) is a voluntary association of local governments established to assist in planning for common needs, cooperating for mutual benefit, and coordinating for sound regional development. The planning area includes the 12 counties of Collin, Dallas, Denton, Ellis, Hood, Hunt, Johnson, Kaufman, Parker, Rockwall, Tarrant, and Wise.
