Essential Job Functions

  • Teach music courses at a variety of times and locations.
  • Create engaging lessons that promote student involvement and application of the material.
  • Submit required college reports and forms in a timely manner.
  • Utilize a course syllabus for each course, following established institutional guidelines.
  • Meet with and advise students either before or after class, by appointment, electronic communication, or other appropriate methods.
  • Evaluate students to measure progress toward course objectives and inform students of their progress in a timely manner.
  • Maintain professional relationships with students, colleagues, and the community.
  • Attend meetings, trainings, and orientations as required.
  • Perform other reasonable related duties as assigned.

  • Mastery of music course content.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills with a collaborative, teamwork‑focused style.
  • Excellent oral and written communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to appreciate alternative viewpoints and work effectively with a wide variety of people.
  • Interest in interdisciplinary teaching, service learning, learning technologies, course development, and adult learning methodologies.
  • Commitment to academic excellence and a dynamic climate for lifelong learning.
  • Ability to develop and implement instructional approaches such as service learning, civic engagement, learning communities, and technology use.
  • Effective strategies to engage students in their learning.

Physical Abilities

The work is sedentary, with occasional walking, standing, bending, and light carrying. No special physical demands are required.

Work Schedule and Conditions

  • Use of PC workstation, calculator, phone, and other standard office equipment.
  • Interface with internal and external contacts as needed.
  • Work is performed in climate‑controlled classroom and/or lab environments with minimal safety hazards.
  • Hours vary depending on class time; instructors must be available outside of scheduled instruction.

Required Qualifications

  • Master’s degree or higher in music, or a master’s degree with at least 18 graduate semester hours in music.

Salary

$55.44 per contact hour.
