Position Summary
The Department of English at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro invites applications for an Assistant Professor in Creative Writing (Poetry), starting August 1, 2026. Candidates will teach creative writing and literature at both undergraduate and graduate levels, and will engage in research in the form, structure, and technique of poetry.
Responsibilities
- Teach creative writing and literature courses at undergraduate and graduate levels.
- Develop and sustain research on poetry, including publication in nationally recognized presses.
- Serve on departmental and university committees as required.
- Provide mentoring and advising to graduate and undergraduate students.
Minimum Qualifications
- Earned an MFA in Poetry (or equivalent).
- Published a minimum of one book of poetry with a nationally recognized press.
- Demonstrated excellence in teaching.
Preferred Qualifications
- Additional MFA or advanced degrees in Poetry.
- Record of peer‑reviewed journal articles in creative writing or related fields.
Tenure Status
Tenure‑Track, Tenure‑Store 9‑month.
