Job Overview
Salida Union School District. Definition: Under supervision, the Library Media Assistant assists the principal and resource teacher with general clerical functions in the school library. The assistant represents the school to the public and district staff, and assists children with skills related to selection and checking in and out of library media.
Responsibilities
Prepares, types and processes orders for books, magazines, non-print media and supplies.
Checks materials received against invoices.
Records and stamps identifying information into new materials.
Composes memos and conducts limited correspondence.
Receives, covers, and routes periodicals.
Types catalog and shelf list cards, book lists and book pockets.
Does simple lettering, binding, and mending of books and pamphlets.
Answers routine reference questions and assists patrons in the use of library media resources.
Discharges library media.
Arranges book displays and makes posters.
Assists principals and resource teacher in promoting library media center usage through story time, book talks, and other activities as needed.
Maintains order of materials and facility to promote optimum access.
Maintains and updates statistical data and assists in inventory.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications Knowledge of:
office practices and machines, library functions and procedures, computer operations and functions.
Ability to:
type 45 words per minute, learn and interpret rules and regulations, file alphabetically and numerically, perform clerical duties accurately and rapidly, lift 30-50 pounds.
Physical Demands The assistant will exert 30-50 pounds of force frequently to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects. The role involves sitting most of the time but may require walking or standing for brief periods. The assistant must perceive the nature of sound, near and far vision, depth perception, provide oral information, and possess manual dexterity to operate business-related equipment and handle various materials and objects.
Education
High school graduate.
AA degree or 48 college units.
Experience
One year experience in office or library work preferred.
Special Requirements
Fingerprint clearance required.
TB clearance required.
Bilingual Preference Bilingual preferred. One year experience in office or library preferred.
Document Requirements
Certification (Copy of AA Degree or higher) OR Copy of Transcript (Transcripts to show at least 48 college units) OR NCLB Compliance (Paraprofessional Assessment Certificate)
Letter of Introduction
Letter(s) of Recommendation (Two (2) letters dated within the last two (2) years.)
