Overview

Position Description: Junior Mechanical Assembler. Serco is hiring to support the U.S. Navy and U.S. Naval Ships with equipment, and C5ISR system installations located in Newport News, Virginia. You will fabricate and assemble various electromechanical and electronic assemblies, applying appropriate safety techniques as part of a dynamic team. Responsibilities

Follow blueprints, guidelines, and diagrams to fabricate and assemble electromechanical and electronic assemblies. Perform work with standard concepts, practices, and procedures within the field. Rely on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals. Work on-board U.S. Naval Ships and military installations, in an environment that may be uncomfortable due to drafts, noise, temperature variation, and related risks; carelessness could result in injuries. Qualifications

The ability to obtain and maintain a secret clearance. High School Diploma or GED. The ability to obtain access to shipyards (NAVSTA & DBIDS), undergo a background investigation, and pass a drug screening. The ability to obtain a Firewatch and Cable Installer certification. 2 years of shipboard experience in a related field and/or combination of experience in the following areas: Ability to bolt/unbolt cableways, deck plates & equipment Drill holes (with supervision) Operate light machinery/equipment (with training) Position, join, align, wrap & seal pipe & conduit sections Ability to follow directions of senior employees Carry equipment and clean spaces Remove lagging & paint Identify safety concerns in the immediate work environment Sound technical knowledge of standard concepts, principles, and techniques in the discipline Ability to work in high-heat spaces, climb shipyard dry dock stairs/ladders, and kneel for cable run layout under false decking; lift up to 50 pounds, and frequently push/pull up to 40 pounds while standing, crouching, or walking Willingness to travel up to 10% to various work sites Ability to work independently or in a team under stressful conditions with tight deadlines Ability to work in Newport News, VA Additional desirable experience
