About the Department
Emergency Communications Dispatcher – you will operate communications equipment to dispatch personnel and equipment for Public Safety’s Police Division and other units. Operating under supervision, you will manage radio, telephone, and computer equipment.
Job Overview
Under direct supervision from the Emergency Communication Center Manager or higher-level supervisor, you will operate communication equipment and coordinate dispatching for campus public safety.
Essential Functions
Operate radio, telephone, and computer equipment at the base station and coordinate communication operations for Law Enforcement, Facilities Management, Fire Inspectors, Fire Alarm Technicians, Parking Services, and Student Health.
Receive and record telephone calls; dispatch personnel and equipment to all UC campuses.
Enter data and queries into the appropriate computerized system; monitor RCIC/LEADS and proprietary alarm systems.
Maintain radio, teletype, and other required records.
Operate with a headset or handset for radio and phone functionality.
Work all shifts, weekends, and holidays during training; may be required to work rotating shifts after training.
Perform related duties based on departmental need; job description may change at any time.
Required Education
High School Diploma or GED.
Required Experience
Six months of computer or keyboarding experience and at least one year of extensive telephone experience. Must obtain RCIC certification, APCO PST 1 certification, and Priority Dispatch IAED EMD certification within one year probationary period.
Additional Qualifications Considered
Telephone experience within a public safety setting.
