The Director of Production is responsible for managing the production of high-quality video and motion design content for the Washington Nationals as well as overseeing the Curly W Productions motion design, videography and editing team. The Curly W Productions team is the video production department of the Washington Nationals responsible for producing impactful, engaging, entertaining content about the team on and off the field. Video content to manage as well as shoot and edit will include but not be limited to in‑park and game‑day content, marketing, corporate partnership, community, social media, broadcast, and behind the scenes content features.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Manage and lead the Curly W Productions team including Motion Graphic Designers, Videographer/Editors, and any game‑day freelance videography and editing staff.
  • Create and manage personnel schedules for Motion Graphic Designers, Videographer/Editors, and any freelance game‑day videography staff.
  • Collaborate with the Executive Director of Content & Broadcasting to help set the annual content strategy and goals for the Curly W Productions team.
  • Collaborate with the Director, Social Media on organic and sponsored content strategy and ideation and game‑day coverage plans.
  • Collaborate with the Corporate Partnership team on ideating video series concepts for sponsors and partners and in‑park Scoreboard and LED displays for game presentation.
  • Manage schedule for all video shoots and edits providing regular updates for video project progress and tracking progress using department’s project management software system (Airtable).
  • Oversee the production of all audio/visual content for game day projects including but not limited to open videos, pump videos, interviews, highlights, and pre‑game video content.
  • Oversee the production and deliver extensive behind‑the‑scenes social media, community, entertaining long‑form features, TV and radio commercials, and high‑energy highlight videos.
  • Oversee the production of the 11th Inning Podcast with Kolko & Zim, a bi‑weekly audio and video podcast.
  • Write copy for video projects as needed included but not limited marketing commercials, behind the scenes packages and scoreboard videos.
  • Lead ideation and planning sessions for content that supports brand and revenue goals.
  • Manage the logging and cataloging of all video projects and game footage and highlights.
  • Work with the Executive Director of Game Production and Engineering to manage and maintain all video production equipment, inventory, and maintenance of all production gear.
  • Produce content in a variety of styles and techniques and ensure Nationals branding is implemented throughout.
  • Review, proof and edit content with a critical eye.

Requirements

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field of study.
  • Minimum of 8 years’ experience in managing personnel.
  • Minimum of 8 years’ experience with interchangeable lens cameras.
  • Minimum of 8 years’ experience with advanced camera support systems including sliders and gimbals.
  • Minimum of 8 years’ experience shooting video in a cinematic style.
  • Minimum of 8 years’ experience with professional lighting, grip and audio equipment.
  • Minimum of 8 years’ experience with non‑linear editing systems (Premiere).
  • Minimum of 8 years’ experience with graphics programs (Photoshop, Illustrator).
  • Minimum of 8 years’ experience with motion graphics programs (After Effects).
  • NOTE: Demo reel is required.

  • Ability to travel during Spring Training and throughout the season as needed.

  • Must possess strong decision‑making skills and be very detail oriented.
  • Must be knowledgeable of the Nationals schedule, players, baseball statistics, rules and records.
  • Must possess interpersonal communication skills (oral and written).
  • Must be able to work ALL home games.
  • Must be able to work the extended hours of game days and specials events as scheduled.
  • Must be comfortable interacting with high‑profile clients.
  • Professional baseball and/or other professional sports production experience preferred.

Physical/Environmental Requirements

  • Work will require weekend and evening work.
  • Job requires employee to function in a high activity and heavily crowded outdoor professional sports venue.
  • May work at heights.
  • Employee will be exposed to inclement weather of varying degrees.
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand for long periods of time, walk long distances and climb up/down stairs.
  • The employee is required to stoop, kneel, crouch, or sit and must lift and/or move up to 45 pounds.

Compensation

The projected annual salary range for this position is $120,000 - $130,000. Actual pay is based on several factors, including but not limited to the applicant’s: qualifications, skills, expertise, education/training, certifications, and other organization requirements. Starting salaries for new employees are frequently not at the top of the applicable salary range.
