About KING 5 Investigators Unit
King 5, TEGNA’s NBC affiliate in Seattle, is looking for an experienced Investigative MSJ/Reporter to join our national award‑winning Investigators Unit. We want a candidate who produces impactful, in‑depth investigative work that consistently enacts change in public policy. This rare opportunity allows you to receive editorial guidance and professional development from KING 5’s News Director, who brings more than two decades of complex investigative work experience to the unit. This is a SAGAFTRA‑union represented position.
Responsibilities
- Pitch, develop, and produce strong investigative stories for all platforms
- Analyze large datasets to identify insights, trends, and patterns
- Use open records laws, data analysis, and innovative research methods to build stories
- Collaborate with producers, editors, photographers, and digital staff to maximize storytelling potential
- Support daily news when investigative skills are warranted
- Shoot and edit high‑quality visual content
- Turn important follow‑up stories quickly
- Use AI to drive efficiency and creativity
- Develop and maintain key sources
Requirements
- Minimum of 8 years investigative reporting experience
- Exceptional organizational skills
- Excellent on‑air presentation skills
- Strong storytelling ability to make the complicated understandable
- Digital‑first mindset with a strong understanding of streaming, social platforms, and audience engagement
- Ability to create graphics (plus)
- Speaking a second language (plus)
Pay Range
43.27-55.29 USD

TEGNA offers a generous Paid Time Off (PTO) benefit as well as nine paid holidays per year.
