This recruitment is for level II. The salary range is $2068.00 – $2771.20 biweekly ($25.85 – $34.64 per hour).
Overview
The Librarian II will independently perform professional library duties, including collection development, cataloging, and library programming. The role also provides outreach services, reference assistance, and may supervise lower level staff.
Responsibilities
- Plan, develop, promote, and implement specialized services and programs for children, youth, adults, and the general community.
- Assist with the development of library collections, ordering, purchasing, and distribution of materials; review and recommend new acquisitions; evaluate materials for removal.
- Classify and catalog books and other materials using Dewey Decimal System, LCC, OCLC, and other resources.
- Assess patron needs and provide accurate reference and research services using print, electronic, and digital resources.
- Prepare subject reading lists, resource bibliographies, and develop and maintain special files and displays.
- Lead or assist in the preparation of grant proposals and manage grant funded programs.
- Develop and implement goals, objectives, policies, procedures, and work standards for assigned areas.
- Provide technical guidance and direction to library staff and volunteers; recruit and train staff.
- Monitor usage of library budget in assigned areas.
- Participate in professional development activities and represent the library in community meetings.
- Make presentations to school and community groups regarding library programs and resources.
- Coordinate, plan, and oversee special programs and audiences.
- Perform related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Master’s degree in Library Science from an accredited university.
- At least one (1) year of experience to the County’s Librarian I.
- Knowledge of public library services, information resources, technology, and services.
- Familiarity with current trends in library services, classification, and cataloging.
- Understanding of patron advisory methods and practice.
- Database searching and organizational management skills.
- Strong communication skills, both written and oral.
- Ability to plan, organize, supervise, review, and evaluate library activities and programs.
- Ability to assess patron and community needs.
- Proficiency with computer systems and modern business equipment.
Minimum Education and Experience
Master’s degree in Library Science and one year of experience equivalent to the County’s Librarian I.
Certifications and Licenses
- Valid California Driver’s License may be required.
Benefits Summary
Base salary range $2068.00 – $2771.20 biweekly; typical annual salary increases of approximately 5% until the top of the range; longevity pay of 2.5% at 10, 15, and 20 years of service; 13 paid holidays per year; vacation days ranging from 15 to 27 days depending on years of service; paid sick leave and bereavement leave; health plan, dental, and vision insurance; retirement through CalPERS; and a competitive benefits package including a $70/month cell phone allowance and a $14–$21 per month uniform allowance (eligible classifications only).
