Job Summary
Under the immediate supervision of Dr. Esther Back Cello Musician and Professor for the Music department, a fully‑matriculated university student working for the professor will gain real‑life experience as well as carrying out administrative and technical tasks closely aligned with their stated career path. The role also offers the opportunity to develop real‑world skills in the Music field.
The typical student assistant will be further along in their educational journey and have exceptional grades and a strong work ethic. The student must be able to multitask and prioritize objectives in order to meet deadlines.
Responsibilities
- Read music and understand musical symbols in order to be able to mark‑up music as instructed by the professor, then distribute that music electronically and make physical copies prior to class meeting.
- Catalogue and reshelf cello ensemble music.
- Organize ensemble black folders.
- Set up the classroom/venue (chairs/stands) prior to any rehearsals/concerts.
- Assist the professor with administrative duties such as sending emails (pre‑approval required before sending), drafting attendance reports, collecting forms (media/photo release forms, etc.).
- Assist in listening to all class members (11‑15 students), help assess them then report the results to the professor. Includes audition day work (send confirmation email as well as some pertinent info i.e., direction and check‑in, etc.) or anything else necessary that is related to the class.
- Other duties as assigned per supervisor.

Minimum Qualifications
- Ability to learn and perform assigned work; follow oral instructions; work cooperatively with faculty staff and other students; communicate effectively with all levels; and read and write English at a level appropriate to the position.
- Special Qualification: Admission or registration as a CSU student.
Required Qualifications
- Maintain a 2.0 G.P.A. or greater per semester and cumulative.
- Students must be enrolled in at least halftime units at CSUSB (6 units undergraduate; 3 units graduate).
- International students must have full‑time enrollment at CSUSB. (12 units undergraduate; 6 units graduate).
- Eligible to work in the United States.
- Payroll Requirement: Social Security Card.
Preferred Qualifications
- The student must be enrolled in a minimum of 8 undergraduate units per semester at CSUSB.
- Intermediate to advanced proficiency in reading music / understanding musical symbols.
- Critical listening skills.
- Intermediate administrative skills including sending emails making copies cataloguing music drafting attendance reports, etc.
Compensation and Benefits
Student Employment Anticipated Hiring Range: $16.50 per hour.
The compensation offered will consider internal equity and experience among other factors.
Position Information
Work status: Part‑Time Temporary Seasonal

Academic year available hours: Monday through Friday (8:00 am – 5:00 pm).
Summer available hours: Monday through Thursday (7:00 am – 5:30 pm).
This is an On‑Campus Only position. Student Employees are not eligible to telecommute at any time.
As of January 1 2022 the CSU Out‑of‑State Employment Policy prohibits the hiring of employees to perform CSU‑related work outside the state of California.
Conditions of Employment
Background Check
Satisfactory completion of a background check (including a criminal records check) may be required for student employment purposes. Drivers License Check
Possession of a valid Drivers License may be required. Employees in this position will be enrolled in the Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) Government Employer Pull Notice Program which confirms possession of a valid driver's license and reflects driving record.
