REFORM ARCHITECTURE - FULL TIME ARCHITECTURAL ASSOCIATE/JUNIOR ARCHITECTURAL DESIGNER Who are we looking for?

Reform Architecture is looking to hire an entry level architectural designer with 0 to 3 years of experience working in New York City. The ideal candidate would have some experience in professional environments that was achieved through summer or afterschool internships and is comfortable reading and drawing plans. We would like the candidate to have good design sensibilities, be thorough with their work, be organized, have a good understanding of technical details and construction, be comfortable communicating with co‑workers and mentors, and be willing to travel around the city for construction site visits.

On the technical side, we would like the candidate to have a solid grasp of AutoCAD, Revit, Rhino, Adobe Creative Suite and most of the Microsoft Office applications.

Architecture license is not required. A Bachelor or Master of Architecture degree is required.

Who are we?

Reform Architecture is a full‑service architecture practice founded by Karim Ahmed and Dionisio Cortes Ortega in 2019, both Cooper Union graduates. Even though Reform Architecture is young and small, our team has extensive experience in a variety of projects. Our work ranges from apartment renovations to larger commercial and community facilities. In addition, Reform is well versed with historic preservation and hospitality projects. Reform Architecture is a NYC and NYS Certified MBE business, and works in all areas of the New York metropolitan area as well as in Long Island, Westchester and Hudson Valley.

Why work with us?

#1 - Work‑life balance. We understand there are cultural expectations when it comes to the profession of an architect and part of our mission is to push back on the status quo. We pride ourselves in being a 40‑hrs/week office.

#2 - Project Diversity. As described above, most of our work falls under residential and historic preservation; however, our residential work can be anything from a bathroom/kitchen renovation, to an extension for a music studio, or a full townhouse gut renovation. In addition, we also have a number of hospitality and community space projects such as converting a church into an art center and implementing a restaurant in a historic structure.

#3 - Work Diversity. As we are still a growing firm, we encourage everyone in our team to be part of every aspect of the project, from schematic design to construction administration. You will be involved and be part of all phases of all projects and you will have knowledgeable co‑workers ready and happy to help you learn.

#4 - Room to Grow. We are on our fifth coming up on the sixth year of having created the partnership. We have been growing steadily and expanding our network. If you are looking not only to be part of a talented design community, but interested in contributing to it in a larger picture sense, we are open to discussing.

What is the compensation?

We try to make this part easy and transparent. We use the AIA salary calculator to determine compensation. See AIA salary calculator under the position “Architectural Associate (non‑licensed)”. Please note that our budget is fixed; if the salary range noted in this listing and or the calculator does not meet your expectations, please refrain from submitting an application.

Where will you be working?

Reform Architecture has incorporated a hybrid work style. Monday and Fridays are remote/on site and Tuesdays through Thursdays are in the office/on site. Our office is located in the South Bronx at 287 Walton Avenue, and is easy to get to! It’s half a block from the first stop in the Bronx on the 4‑5 train at 138th Street and Grand Concourse and 3 blocks away via the 2 train at 149th Street and Grand Concourse. This is about 20 min away from midtown or 40‑45 min from downtown Brooklyn. This job requires in‑office and on‑site presence in New York City.

Please provide a cover letter, portfolio and CV. Thank you and looking forward to receiving your applications.
