Marketing Assistant, EXPO CHICAGO & The Armory Show

Full-time (40 hours per week)
Frieze is the world’s leading platform for modern and contemporary art, dedicated to artists, galleries, collectors and art lovers alike. Frieze comprises three magazines – frieze, Frieze Masters Magazine and Frieze Week – and seven international art fairs – Frieze London, Frieze Masters, Frieze New York, Frieze Los Angeles, Frieze Seoul, The Armory Show and EXPO Chicago. Legacy art fair brands The Armory Show and EXPO Chicago were acquired by Frieze in September 2023. In October 2021, Frieze also launched No.9 Cork Street, a permanent space for visiting international galleries in the heart of Mayfair, London.
The
Marketing Assistant
supports the marketing and communications efforts across EXPO CHICAGO and The Armory Show. This role works closely to support the Director and Manager of Marketing to execute multi‑channel campaigns, maintain brand consistency, and support audience engagement across digital, print, and on‑site platforms. The ideal candidate is detail‑oriented, highly organized, and passionate about contemporary art and cultural programming.
Marketing General
Support the development and delivery of advertising and partnership materials.
Maintain brand standards and assist with updates to visual identity and style guides.
Streamline internal marketing workflows and ensure alignment across EXPO CHICAGO and The Armory Show.
Manage shared planning documents, Notion pages, and image archives.
Digital Marketing & Website Management
Update and maintain website content, exhibitor pages, and event listings.
Collaborate on digital newsletters and e‑blasts for general and VIP audiences.
Social Media & Content Creation
Assist in planning and scheduling social media content across platforms.
Capture and edit photo and video content during events and fairs.
Monitor engagement and identify opportunities for increased reach and visibility.
Event & On‑Site Support
Assist with on‑site marketing operations during fairs and partner events, including signage, publications, and collateral distribution.
Coordinate delivery logistics and documentation of publication distribution.
Support EXPO ART WEEK and The Armory Show programming, assisting with check‑in, event staffing, and guest communications.
Execute marketing deliverables for sponsors, hotels, and media partners (e.g., banners, eblasts, social posts).
Manage ticketing communications and complimentary ticket processes.
Track and report on marketing fulfilment for key partners.
Design & Production
Assist in creating and editing marketing collateral using Canva and Adobe Creative Suite.
Support signage production, proofreading, and quality assurance for on‑site materials.
Collaborate with cross‑functional teams to produce event guides, maps, and other print assets.
Skills and Qualifications Experience:
Previous experience (including internships or student roles) in marketing, communications, or event coordination — ideally in the arts or cultural sector. Recent graduates with a strong interest in learning and growing in the field are encouraged to apply.
Technical Skills:
Canva, Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator), Mailchimp or similar email platforms, Microsoft 365, Google Workspace, Notion, basic CMS management.
Core Competencies:
Strong copywriting and proofreading skills.
Excellent organizational and project management abilities.
Detail‑oriented with ability to handle multiple deadlines.
Collaborative and proactive team player.
Interest in contemporary art and knowledge of the Chicago and New York cultural landscapes.
Please note this role may involve some overtime, weekend and evening work during the event and domestic travel.
