Job Title Design and Release Engineer Location: Auburns hills, MI

Job Description The Design and Release Engineer will be responsible for developing components/systems from initial design concept through full volume production. The Engineer will provide feasibility input for development of designs from Product Design Office (PDO) concepts, sketch, and clay models. He/She will establish and manage the development timeline for the life of the project, develop functional objectives, build objectives, DVPR, and DFMEA for components. The Engineer will lead design while leveraging external design resources and/or internal CAD design resource. He/She will be responsible for the release of completed component geometry using Teamcenter/NX CAD tools, validate virtual designs using CAE resources, and perform physical validation via component, system, and vehicle level testing. He/She will manage internal documentation for the release of systems, plan and oversee tool construction and production of assemblies, provide on‑site support for vehicle pilot builds and production launch at the assembly plant, and conduct root‑cause analysis and corrective action for issues related to assembly, fit/finish, and functional performance. Additionally, the Engineer will analyze and remediate warranty, identify cost‑reduction opportunities, and prepare safety compliance report documents.

Qualifications

Minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Automotive Engineering, or related field.

Minimum of 2 years of experience in automotive system development or related area.

Skill Requirements

Proficient in CAD software (Teamcenter, NX, Vis Pro) and PLM systems.

Strong knowledge of elastomeric materials (EPDM, TPV, TPE) and sealing system functions.

Familiarity with GD&T, DFMEA, DVP&R, tolerance stack‑up, and typical automotive validation testing (dust, water, noise).

Experience with FCA release systems.

Demonstrated automotive interest (via hobbies or college project).

Demonstrated passion to work in the automotive industry.

Excellent problem‑solving and project‑management skills.

Self‑motivated individual.

Strong communication and interpersonal skills.

Preferred Qualifications

Master’s degree in engineering or related technical field.

Experience working directly with OEM or Tier 1 sealing suppliers.

Experience with problem solving such as Red‑X.

Experience with robust design such as DFSS.

Knowledge of global automotive standards and sealing performance requirements.

Understanding of thermal expansion, body tolerances, and design for assembly in relation to sealing systems.

Hands‑on experience with vehicle builds and plant launch activities.

Work Location Hybrid (minimum 3 days in office, 2 remote).

Compensation and Benefits A candidate’s pay within the range will depend on their work location, skills, experience, education, and other factors permitted by law. This role may also be eligible for performance‑based bonuses subject to company policies.
