Utility Field Customer Service Worker (Promotional)
Apply within a limited number of opportunities for City of El Paso Water Department employees only. The position is a temporary promotional role.
Qualifications
Education: High School Diploma or GED or higher.
Experience: At least 1 year of meter reading or customer service.
Licenses: Texas Class "C" Driver's License or equivalent.
Physical requirement: Ability to perform service calls and lift up to 50 lbs.
Optional: Experience with radio frequency meters.
Responsibilities
Perform service calls to start, terminate, inspect, maintain and repair water services.
Install water service for new accounts and remove locks or plugs on meters.
Install gaskets and activate service for new customers.
Carry out routine cutoffs, turn‑ons, reinstates and repairs on water department lines.
Conduct field collections of monies on past‑due accounts; install locks and plugs where service cannot be collected.
Verify meter readings for billing inquiries and provide customer support.
Repair meters and install radio frequency meters as required.
Explain policies and resolve customer complaints.

Required supplemental questions and answers will be evaluated as part of the examination component.
Applicants must pass the supplemental exam; the score will be combined with seniority and veteran points to create a list of candidates.
Foreign credentials must be evaluated by NACES and translated prior to submission.
A résumé or other documents will not be accepted in lieu of a completed application; comments such as “See résumé” are not acceptable.
Failure to fully detail all experience and duties in the application or to use sample language from the job specification will eliminate candidates from consideration.
