Job Summary
The pre‑visit planning authorization/insurance lead will oversee the pre‑visit team, arrange for efficient and accurate collection of pre‑registration information to secure timely and proper payment for services rendered at McDonough District Hospital. These duties as specified below are focused on securing the revenue due to MDH for services provided to patients in all outpatient departments.
Job Specifications
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: Must be a high school graduate. Previous medical receptionist/clerical experience or a background in general office work preferred. Typing/keyboarding experience required with a minimum of 35 wpm. A patient access specialist must successfully complete the designated orientation program for this position.
Abilities, Interests And Temperaments
Must be able to use tact, courtesy, and diplomacy when dealing with employees, supervisors, doctors, patients, and the general public.
Must have the ability to express thoughts in clear and concise terms, both verbal and written.
Must have the ability to apply critical thinking skills to assess a situation and summon appropriate help when needed.
Must have the ability to follow processes and techniques necessary to follow policies and procedures to ensure standards of care.
Must be interested in all aspects of maintaining a general business office setting.
Must have the ability to work with a variety of patients of all populations (e.g., developmentally appropriate care, cultural diversity, patients with pain, victims of abuse or neglect, and diagnosis or procedure specific such as patient with congestive heart failure or cesarean delivery).
