Job Type Full-Time, 37.5 hrs/week, Non-Exempt
General Description Work is performed with independence under the supervision of the Library Circulation Manager. The person in this position will work rotating shifts including day, evening and weekend hours, as assigned. Although this position is based at the Main Library, the selected candidate may be asked to work at other Durham County Library locations.
Essential Functions
Provides support for the Circulation Unit of the Main Library.
Supports library circulation functions such as checking items in and out, daily intake and delivery of library materials, pulling holds, shelving, library notices, fee collection, and customer accounts.
Registers new borrowers and resolves issues related to library accounts.
Shares in the responsibility for coverage of the Circulation Desk and other service points as assigned.
Assists with money handling to include, but not limited to, daily revenue reports, cash management reports, and reconciling cash register.
Provides excellent customer service in a team-based environment in the Main Library Circulation Unit.
Assists with monitoring and answering LibAnswers/LibChat.
Performs related tasks as required or requested.
Knowledge, Skills And Abilities
General knowledge of library principles, methods, materials, and practices.
General knowledge of theory and objectives of a public library system.
Effective oral and written communication skills
Excellent internal and external customer service skills.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with library employees and patrons.
Ability to use personal computers and word processing.
Basic computer skills.
Minimum Education And Experience Requirements Graduation from high school and demonstrated possession of knowledge, skills and abilities gained through at least one year of office assistant/secretarial experience; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
Preferred Skills
Public Library experience
Knowledge of library circulation systems
Ability to speak Spanish a plus
Physical Demands Performs sedentary work that involves walking or standing some of the time and involves exerting up to 10 pounds of force on a regular and recurring basis or sustained keyboard operations.
