Maintains the appearance of books, materials and space in the library and provides routine customer service to library patrons. Work is performed under regular supervision of the Page Supervisor. The functions listed below are those that represent the majority of the time spent working in this position. Management may assign additional functions related to the type of work of the position as necessary. Loads books onto book carts and arranges books for shelving. Sorts, shelves, relocates and searches for library materials accurately and efficiently. Unloads books from drop boxes and bring books inside library. Returns used books, newspapers, and magazines to their proper locations. Performs routine circulation duties, including checking in, checking out, and renewing library materials. Returns materials and supplies to proper locations. Provides simple directional information to patrons. Searches shelves for lost books. Assist with special projects that support the library's strategic plan. Performs related work as assigned. Some knowledge of business English, spelling and arithmetic. Ability to sort and file alphabetically and numerically. Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions. Ability to push fully loaded book carts and to lift and carry moderate weights. Ability to work cooperatively with all library patrons and employees. Demonstrates good judgment, accuracy orderliness, and reliability. Basic computer skills. Excellent customer service and interpersonal skills. Any combination of education and experience equivalent to sixteen years of age and completion of tenth grade. Ability to speak Spanish. Performs light to medium work that involves walking or standing virtually all of the time and also involves exerting between 20 and 50 pounds of force on a regular and recurring basis or considerable skill, adeptness and speed in the use of the fingers, hands or limbs in tasks involving close tolerances or limits of accuracy.
