Job Summary In this role, you'll perform daily work activities with direct to moderate supervision. Work activities include computer aided drafting to develop power equipment parts, assemblies, and designs and to assist with drawings development in Autodesk Inventor and AutoCAD. The position also includes clerical work to manage and document activities per AEP requirements.

What You’ll Do:

Create, revise and maintain structural substation models, drawings, and sketches using Autodesk Inventor (primarily) and AutoCAD.

Obtain information required to perform work from verbal communication, sketches, marked drawings, listings, field notes, vendors' catalogs and technical reference manuals.

Use proficiency in Autodesk Inventor, Vault, AutoCAD; experience with Spatial Business Systems (SBS) Substation Design Software (SDS), SBS P4I, SBS UtilityDataHub preferred.

Use proficiency in Microsoft Office.

Read vendors' prints, shop and other drawings and equipment operating instructions and incorporate that information into work.

Actively seek information to increase technical knowledge in area of responsibility.

Apply technical knowledge to resolve basic problems encountered in assigned work.

Coordinate information and design across a multi‑disciplinary team to ensure deliverables are compliant with project expectations.

Collaborate with various departments during the course of the project.

Assume other duties and responsibilities as assigned, both independently and in support of teammates.

Note:

This position is posted at multiple grade levels and offers a range of opportunities for advancement. The minimum qualifications outlined below apply to the Designer level, with increased educational, skill and experience requirements for higher level Designers.

What We're Looking For:

Associate degree in applied science (AAS) drafting and computer aided design (CAD) or in civil, electrical or mechanical engineering technology, with one (1) to two (2) years of relevant equivalent experience.

Work Experience (without AAS degree):

High school graduate with six (6) years of experience in electric utility and/or related industrial drafting and/or computer aided drafting work.

Familiarity with

Must be available to work overtime as needed.

Must be familiar with conventional drafting symbols and drafting methods and have the ability to distinguish colors.

Must be able to operate a motor vehicle and possess and maintain a valid state driver's license.

Must meet all vehicle operation requirements as designated by federal and/or state law.

May require shift work or overtime.

Travel 5% – Overnight stays are NOT expected.

Utility experience a plus but not required.

Physical demand level is Sedentary.

Where You'll Work:

On‑Site in the New Albany, OH, Roanoke, VA or Tulsa, OK location.

What You'll Get:

$27/hr – $54.50/hr.

Compensation Data:

Compensation Grade: SP20-005

Compensation Range: $25.23 – $51.13

Salary: $52.5K – $113,360K / Year

Physical Demand Level: Sedentary. Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently. May involve walking or standing for brief periods of time.
