Music Teachers Pool ($55,394+) at Dorchester County Public Schools for the 2025‑2026 school year. The role supports students across all levels, working under the direction of the principal and the supervisor of English Learners, Instructional Technology, Library‑Media, and Fine Arts.

Duties

  • Plan a program of study that meets the needs, interests, and abilities of individuals, including teaching General Music and Chorus and preparing students for choral competitions and festivals.
  • Teach assigned classes on a regular and consistent basis at the designated locations and times.
  • Create a classroom environment that encourages student involvement and enables achievement of learning objectives.
  • Provide an instructional program that meets the needs of all students, including those with disabilities.
  • Prepare for classes and provide documented evidence of preparation upon request.
  • Guide the learning process toward curriculum goals, establishing clear objectives for lessons, units, and projects.
  • Assess student needs in alignment with the DCPS curriculum framework and human growth principles.
  • Select instructional methods, resources, and evaluation techniques that motivate and enable student achievement.
  • Diagnose learning disabilities regularly and seek assistance from central staff; provide input to student IEPs.
  • Ensure safety precautions for students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
  • Maintain accurate records as required by law, DCPS policy, and regulation.
  • Assist administration in implementing student life policies, developing classroom behavior rules, and maintaining order fairly.
  • Be available to students and parents outside instruction when required.
  • Build respectful relationships with colleagues, students, parents, and community.
  • Supervise instructional assistants, teacher assistants, and volunteers; evaluate assistant performance with department heads or administrators.
  • Appraise personal effectiveness and pursue professional competence growth.
  • Participate in school management and share responsibility for the overall program.
  • Attend staff meetings and serve on committees as required.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Possess, or be eligible for, a Maryland State Department of Education teaching certificate with a Music PreK‑12 endorsement.
  • Possess a Bachelor’s degree or higher from an accredited college or university.
  • Knowledge of DCPS curriculum, integration techniques, district policies, and effective instructional practices.
  • Ability to provide instruction that reflects multiple perspectives and multicultural education.
  • Ability to integrate technology into the curriculum.
  • Proficiency in the Maryland Teacher Technology Standards.
  • Knowledge of the Maryland Technology Literacy Standards for Students.
  • Excellent communication and human relation skills.
