Job Title
Technical Writer – Phoenix, AZ – Hybrid – 6+ Month Contract: $35‑$47.50 per hour
Overview
Our client seeks a Technical Writer to join its growing staff of security professionals in the Information Security Office (ISO) Division of the Information Technology Services Department. The ISO Division provides strategic oversight, direction, and coordination for the city of Phoenix’s information security programs. This position reports to the Cyber Strategy and Planning Manager (CSAPM) and supports the Chief Information Security Officer (CISO) in developing and executing cyber strategy, policy planning and design, security training and education, security communication, tool administration, and security metrics and reporting across the city.
The Technical Writer will focus primarily on policy planning and design, while also assisting in delivering results for the core responsibilities of the section/branch. The role involves analyzing information required for policy planning and design, developing or updating policies, standards, standard operating procedures, website content, reports, metrics, training materials, brochures, and more.
The writer will consult with management, engineering, technical staff, and subject‑matter experts to understand the city’s information security services, then use standard templates to translate that information into user‑friendly, engaging content.
The documentation must be simple, clear, comprehensive, and able to address questions or situations that may arise across all levels of the city. It must also align with the city’s mission, existing policies, and applicable laws. Additional legal research may be required.
Responsibilities
- Prepare, review, revise, and maintain technical documents, policies, standards, standard operating procedures, and other information security content, including software and systems engineering, system operations, testing, and user documentation.
- Gather and analyze technical and product information from various sources to document new or changing product functionality.
- Write, format, edit, review, and proof procedural and technical information for both technical and non‑technical users.
- Assist in planning, scheduling, and tracking documentation work to meet release and deliverable dates.
